Two-year-old Zéa Lane began her battle to survive stage 4 cancer at just 3 months old.It has robbed her of meeting milestones and being able to make friends or keep up with other toddlers her age. It has paralyzed her from the chest down, with doctors saying she would never walk.As she gets older, Zéa is realizing that she's different. While wearing ballet slippers, the little girl who loves to bop around to music looked at her mother and said, "My feet are broken, Mama." 484

VANCOUVER – A Canadian choir performed a COVID-19 parody of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and it may be just what you need to get through the holidays. The parody posted online is called “I Will Social Distance From You” and it was performed by the Virtual Pop Choir, operated by The Chorus Studio in Vancouver. The choir made several lyrical edits throughout the song to better apply to the turbulent times we’re living in this holiday season.Along with asking people to keep their distance, the choir has a few other things on their wish list this Christmas, like a mask that doesn’t fog up glasses and fashionable PPE.They also jokingly refer to Santa Claus as a super-spreader and tell him to “get the f*** out of my face” multiple times. The choir also touches on the popular opinion that 2020 has been bad as a whole.“All of 2020 has been a steaming dump. We’re out of toilet paper, can’t even wipe our butts. And everyone is wondering, is a vaccine really coming? Murder hornets, Q’anon, wildfires, anti-maskers,” the choir sang.At the end of the song, the singers say all they really want is to see their choir and safely sing in harmony.“Even though we’re still apart, I hold you fiercely in my heart. Together, we’ll pull through! I will social distance, from you!”According to their website, the Virtual Pop Choir was created in response to the pandemic. The group is made up of more than 70 singers who are also teachers, lawyers, students, actors, business owners, contractors, nurses and firefighters. They sing online to keep their community connected and safe. 1600

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Calif. (KGTV) - Neighbors in University Heights say the city needs to do more to clear dead brush from a canyon along Washington Street. The canyon, often called "Camelot Canyon," runs east from the 163 and underneath the popular Vermont Street bridge.People who live nearby say the brush underneath, combined with homeless encampments, creates a fire hazard.Their fears came true last March when a massive fire broke out among the palm trees near the bridge. In the aftermath, the fire department ordered CalTrans and the City of San Diego to remove dead brush from the canyon.Neighbors say they didn't do enough."We're trying to get them to finish the job and help suppress wildfires," says Marybeth Chruden. She and a few other people in the neighborhood have started a petition asking the city to fund more clean up efforts.RELATED: - Brush fire breaks out near SR-163 at Washington Street- University Heights Canyon cleanup starts following brush fire- Councilman wants homeless cleared out after fire near 163"As soon as you mention the fire, people are eager to sign," Chruden says. Her group is hoping to present at least 1,000 signatures to the City Council at an upcoming meeting."If a fire starts in the middle of the night and nobody catches it in time, the palm trees go up, the eucalyptus trees go up, and we could have another fire like what happened in Paradise," says Andy Lange, referencing the fire in Northern California that burned thousands of homes. The Fire Department says clean up is complicated in the canyon. Part of it is owned and maintained by CalTrans. The rest is city property.According to Assistant Fire Marshall Eddie Villavicencio, city crews did two cleanups after last spring's fire; one in April and another in July. The delay between the two was a result of waiting for more funding. Also, city code only allowed the crews to clear out dead or dying vegetation, nothing more.Villavicencio also says the canyon is designated as Open Space and supposed to be left alone to let nature take over. Because of that, there is no requirement for the city to maintain the brush.CalTrans, meanwhile, has different requirements for their land in the canyon. Chruden and her group say the CalTrans land is maintained and kept clear.Villavicencio says the Fire Department is always looking for grants to help fund more cleanups in these areas. He also mentions a bigger problem is the homeless camps in canyons, which are typically the cause of fires. That part of the issue is a police and enforcement matter.Chruden's group says those explanations serve as further proof that the city needs to fund this kind of regular maintenance."This is such a wonderful neighborhood, such a good community, and we take pride in it," says Debora Morrison, who has spent time gathering signatures on the bridge. "We're just asking the city to take pride in it as well and clean it up."The petition can be found here. 2958

TULSA, Okla. -- For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began, President Donald Trump will hold a campaign rally Saturday night. The event is scheduled to take place in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the BOK Center. WHO WILL ATTEND?In short, a lot of people. The Trump campaign has said over a million ticket requests have been received and overflow venues are in the works. Supporters of the president began camping outside the BOK Center on Monday to see Trump. The arena holds around 20,000. WHAT WILL BE DIFFERENT? Bob Jack, Chairman of the Tulsa County GOP, says the campaign will provide a temperature check, hand sanitizer and a mask."I feel perfectly safe going to the rally," Jack said in an interview. Wearing the mask though -- that will be up to the individual person. Jack doesn't plan on wearing his. "They're going to hand you a mask, are you going to wear it?" E.W. Scripps National Political Editor Joe St. George asked Jack. "No, I'm not going to wear it. There is a lot of controversy about masks," Jack said. DOES THE PRESIDENT KNOW THE RISKS? Yes, but the White House believes the rally is still worth it even though Tulsa's top public health official has asked for the event to be postponed over fears it will spread the virus. "Are you worried?" St. George asked Kellyanne Conway, a senior advisor to the president, in an interview this week. "You aren't worried at all?""It's my job to worry, I am a mother," Conway said. "The president has made very clear he wants to get back to doing rallies. He wants to get back to the people." WHERE WILL THE PRESIDENT GO NEXT? That is very much unclear. However, campaign officials have said Arizona, Florida and North Carolina have all been discussed. All are states, though, with cases of coronavirus on the rise, which may be why the president hasn't announced any dates yet. "Is Florida likely?" St. George asked Conway. "Sure why not, everywhere is likely," Conway added. 1947

VALLEY CENTER, Calif. (KGTV) - The 12-year-old survivor of a plane crash in Valley Center is praising her uncle, the pilot who died in the crash.A smiling photo of Raquel Contreras was taken moments before her uncle, Peter Bierle, a seasoned pilot, took her up in his single-engine, experimental aircraft on an early Sunday evening. They were above the home of her friend for a birthday flyover when it happened. More than two weeks after the crash, Contreras spoke to us from her hospital room. She says some neighbors got an early warning."The plane hadn't even crashed, and they were getting ready because they heard engine failure," said Contreras.RELATED: Pilot killed, 12-year-old girl badly injured in small plane crash in Valley CenterA traumatized Contreras didn't want to talk about the crash, but her family says her uncle told her to, "Get down low and hold on."Witnesses saw the plane dive toward the yard, away from buildings, before it crashed."I want to honor Uncle Peter. It's amazing what he did, and I wouldn't be here if he didn't land and crash like he did," said Contreras.Bierle died at the scene. Dozens of neighbors rushed to the plane, burning fuel nearby."Just want to thank everyone on Palomar Vista Drive ... Amazing how everyone came together in the end," Contreras said.Contreras was cut out of seat belt and rescued. That seat belt was a 4-point harness belt, courtesy of her Aunt Connie."Right before the flight, she put in a new seat belt and checked my buckle," says Contreras. The last-minute addition may have saved her life. Raquel was hurt badly, with injuries to her eye and spine, and fractures to her skull, sternum, and hand. Two surgeries later, a determined Contreras is now beginning her long road to recovery."We've just been taking steps slowly and steadily," she said.A Gofundme campaign has been set up to help the family with expenses. The NTSB has yet to release its initial findings on the crash. 1954
