SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police have released video footage after officers shot and killed a murder suspect following a standoff on May 29.The 32-year-old suspect who was shot and killed was accused of shooting and killing another man at a City Heights apartment complex.The video shows officer stationed outside the apartment complex. Watch the full video below:According to police, gunfire was reported at the complex on the 3800 block of Euclid Avenue around 3:30 p.m.Officers later found a 62-year-old Hispanic man with at least one gunshot wound. Three officers fired their weapons at the suspect, striking him several times," a San Diego Police Department statement said. "Specially trained STAR medics deployed with the SWAT team to provide aid, but the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. A firearm and a knife were recovered."Earlier in the week, the suspect’s mother reportedly contacted police after he threatened her with a firearm.Police say the women told investigators her son wanted to be involved in a shooting with police and to commit “suicide by cop.” 1700

But with that comes the possibility of more little creatures living off all that glorious foliage. So can San Diegans expect more mosquitoes buzzing around this season? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diegans are continuing to push to get through to the state agency that handles unemployment claims, as bills come due.The region's unemployment rate is now a record 15%, as 195,000 people lost their jobs in April. Meanwhile, the Employment Development Department continues to be inundated with people trying call. The agency plans to add 1,800 temporary full-time and hourly workers over the coming weeks to handle the influx."It would be so helpful if I could just reach out to someone," said Ashley Porter, of El Cajon, who can't get through to ask why she has not received unemployment. "It's been very stressful for me."Porter still has a job at a medical call center, but had to reduce her hours to take care of her six-year-old daughter, Adalynn, whose school closed. The EDD's website says people who take that step may be eligible for jobless benefits, but that it's on a case-by-case basis and involves a phone interview.Porter says she never got that phone call, but what did arrive was a letter that she is eligible for up to 8 per week. But when she goes online to claim benefits, she gets an error message that reads - benefits exceeded. Her calls and emails to EDD are going unanswered. "I just feel so low, I just feel like I've worked so long and I've worked so hard that I mean, now that this has happened, can I just get a little assistance?" said Porter, who says her employer has not allowed her position to work from home. A spokesperson for the EDD expressed empathy for Porter's situation, but declined to discuss specifics. The spokesperson said, however, that the benefits exceeded message probably means the claimant makes too much to get benefits.State law says workers with reduced hours are eligible for unemployment if 75% of their reduced earnings comes out to less than what their weekly unemployment check would be. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County leaders announced Thursday that they will begin to allow passive activities at beaches beginning June 2. According to the county, such activities that will be allowed include sunbathing and relaxing with towels and chairs. Supervisor Greg Cox noted that activities like football and volleyball will not be allowed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police officers arrested a man for attacking a four-year-old girl outside an apartment complex on the 4300 block of 50th Street.According to witnesses, the little girl’s father was dropping the girl off at her grandmother’s home around 11:30. Before the grandmother could walk the four-year-old through the security gates of her complex, a stranger attacked the child from behind.A neighbor, who only asked to use his first name, Robert, says he heard someone calling for the help, so he came outside. He says he saw the grandmother had gotten through the gate, but the father and another neighbor were outside of the entrance trying to hold off the attacker. Robert felt compelled to step in.“He came at me, and it seemed like he was going for someone, and that someone was a child,” he said, “so I had no other recourse, I hit him once he went down. He bit my leg. He got up, and he started coming after me.”But the man didn’t stay down, instead continued to attack.“Very very vicious, he had a very crazy look,” Robert said. “He wasn’t saying anything, he was grunting like a feral animal. He was exceptionally strong. He just wouldn’t quit, even when the police got here, he was very very strong.”Robert says he had no idea why he was trying to hurt the little girl but said the man might have been under the influence of something.Police arrested the suspect.Robert recalled seeing red marks around the little girl’s neck but said she was okay though visibly shaken.She is home with her parents. 1541
