LAWRENCE, Kan. - University of Kansas head football coach Les Miles has been diagnosed with COVID-19, the Jayhawks athletic department announced Thursday.Miles said he learned he had tested positive earlier in the day and was “beginning the isolation process at my home.”KU, which is 0-3 in 2020, has a bye this weekend and isn't scheduled to play again until Oct. 6 at West Virginia, and Miles “will continue to fulfill my head coach responsibilities remotely.”He will not, however, be present at Jayhawks practices unless and until he has recovered.“Although I will not physically be able to attend a practice, for the time being, I will be using the technology available for remote working to stay connected during staff meetings, meetings with players, etc.,” Miles said in a statement.Kansas Director of Athletics Jeff Long said Miles’ case was caught through the program’s surveillance testing protocols.“At this time, we believe he will be able to continue to perform his head coaching duties,” Long said in a statement. “Based on the other test results, no other coaches tested positive. LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A car burst into flames after a crash in La Mesa early Sunday morning. According to California Highway Patrol, the crash happened on SR-94 near the 125 before 3:30 a.m. CHP says the driver was speeding on SR-94 west when he tried merging onto the 125 on-ramp. The man then lost control and flipped several times before the car went up in flames. Witnesses stopped to help, but the man was able to get out of the vehicle on his own. The driver was able to escape the crash with only minor injuries. CHP says he is being checked for DUI. Traffic was shut down on the 125 on-ramp for a short time after the crash, but was reopened before 6 a.m. 676

(CNS) - Four teenagers who allegedly assaulted a cab driver outside a La Mesa restaurant early Wednesday and stole his taxi while threatening him with a gun were arrested a short time later after abandoning the vehicle in a remote industrial area about six miles away, police reported.The group of youths called for a cab shortly before 1 a.m. at Denny's in the 6900 block of Alvarado Road in La Mesa, just east of San Diego State University, according to police.After boarding the Blue Star Cab vehicle, the quartet began quarreling over the fare, Lt. Greg Runge said. Two of them then punched the driver, prompting him to jump out of the taxi, the lieutenant said.At that point, one of the teens got behind the wheel of the cab, pointed a handgun at the victim and drove off, Runge said.Using signals from a GPS-tracking device in the stolen cab, police tracked the vehicle down it in the 10700 block of US Elevator Road in Spring Valley about 20 minutes later. The taxi was unoccupied, but a gun had been left behind inside, the lieutenant said.Officers searched the area with help from a sheriff's helicopter, soon capturing the suspects within a block of the abandoned taxi. The victim and a witness positively identified the group as the alleged perpetrators in a curbside lineup.Arrested were Jaden Razell Jones of Spring Valley and Kaitlyn Arianna Gendleman of El Cajon, both 19; 18-year-old Jacob Ronald Jensen of El Cajon; and a 17-year-old boy. LAKE JACKSON, Texas — A Houston-area official says it will take 60 days to ensure a city drinking water system is purged of a deadly, microscopic parasite that led to the death of a 6-year-old boy earlier this month.The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality said earlier this week that it was developing a plan to flush and disinfect the water system.Mundo says Lake Jackson residents are urged to boil their tap water before using it.Texas Gov. Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster in Brazoria County over the weekend due to the presence of the microbe in the drinking water.Lake Jackson City Manager Modesto Mundo said Monday that three of 11 samples of the city's water indicated preliminary positive results for the naegleria fowleri microbe.One sample came from the home of Josiah McIntyre, a 6-year-old boy whom doctors said died earlier this month after being infected with the parasite.According to the Houston Chronicle, Josiah was tested for strep and COVID-19 when he came down with a fever. (KGTV)-  A long-time animal rights activist who has filmed seals and sea lions harassed in La Jolla says people are not getting the message.Andrea Hahn has filmed the animals every day since 1994.  Footage from Sunday she says showed some of the worst behavior she has witnessed in recent months: a woman with a shovel disrupting pregnant mothers on the beach.Another video shows a grieving sea lion mother with her stillborn pup. It has generated over 100 million hits according to Hahn. She says the pregnant mothers are delivering more stillborn pups because people are not giving them proper space.  She has even witnessed tourists stepping on the pups.  "People are not getting it.  Tourists think because they paid money to get here they have the right to grapple with the animals.  There are perfectly good laws on the books and people are ignoring them and the government is not enforcing the laws," said Hahn.A "no-selfie" sign was recently posted at South Casa Beach.  It was posted to remind visitors that sea lions and the seals are protected by federal law, monitored by park rangers, and it's illegal to disturb them.  Access to the Children's Pool is closed due to pupping season but is set to reopen in May.  "Right now that area is safe and quiet for them.  It should be closed for good,' said Hahn. 1401
