President Donald Trump is proposing bonuses for educators who undergo gun training. An Ohio woman is filing a lawsuit against the Montgomery County Jail claiming excessive force was used against her.Marsha Pate-Strickland is suing the Montgomery county jail for this video-tapped incident.It happened back in 2015.Pate-Strickland says it all began when she asked a corrections officer at the jail if she could exchange her juice for milk.In the video, you can see the officer grab her and slam her to the floor.Pate-Strickland said she complained that her arm and shoulder were injured. But she refused medical attention.Now she claims she has permanent and debilitating injuries.Officials with the Montgomery County jail have not commented on the lawsuit. 710

An armed citizen gunned down a shooter at an Oklahoma City restaurant on Thursday, killing him, police said.A man walked into Louie's Grill & Bar and opened fire, striking two people. As the gunman was fleeing the scene, a bystander armed with a pistol confronted the shooter and fatally shot him outside the restaurant, Oklahoma City Police Captain Bo Mathews told reporters."Right now, all I know is that it was just a good Samaritan that was there and looks like he took the right measures to be able to put an end to a terrible, terrible incident," Mathews said.The shooter's motive is not known and his identity has not been confirmed. 652

Art often provokes emotion and helps us travel back in time, teaching us about our ancestors.“Hola, my name is Claudia Moran and I’m the Executive Director for Museo de las Americas,” Moran said.At Museo de las Americas in Denver, Colorado, Latinx artists are given a space to represent their culture.“Art is very powerful in the influence of Latinx artists and the history of art in the United States,” Moran said.In the midst of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Museo is hosting an exhibition called Rhythm and Ritual.“It’s an exhibition that showcases a pre-Columbian collection that focuses on musical instruments. And yes, it’s a very, very rare exhibition because we’re able to see many pre-Columbian exhibitions everywhere, but none that only focus on music,” Moran said.The goal is to demonstrate the value of music since the pre-Columbian times and educate people on the type of music that was played 1,500 years ago. Museo de las Americas commissioned a local Hispanic artist to help tell that story. David Ocelotl Garcia is a sculpture and painter.Garcia grew up in Colorado, but his parents are from Mexico.“My mother is from Guadalajara, Jalisco, and my father is from Leon, Guanajuato,” Garcia said.He says he feels connected to his culture and finds it beautiful.“My heritage is very significant in my work, so I’ve learned to really study that and use it so that I can tell my own stories about where we are today.”For the Rhythm and Ritual exhibition, he painted a mural he admired as a child.“He reproduced an original mural from Bonampak in Mexico from the state of Chiapas, and this mural is a very accurate replica of a group of Mayan people playing different instruments,” Moran said.“I believe they’re probably participating in a ceremony, so there’s many characters playing different instruments that many people, including myself, have never seen,” Garcia said.Garcia says it’s important for people not to forget where they come from.“Make sure we embrace our roots and our traditions and the way we do things and use that as a part of the way we advance and move forward,” Garcia said.As we move forward as a society, Moran says we can learn from our ancestors and appreciate what different cultures have to bring to the table.“We all should be very, very open to new ideas, don’t be scared of them, and embrace them because that’s what is going to take us through arts and our artistic lives to a whole new level,” Moran said. 2462

An explosion rocked a United Parcel Service freight facility in Kentucky on Wednesday morning, injuring at least two people, but authorities say they doubt that the blast stemmed from a terror attack. Instead, it appears to be accidental, they said.The incident took place in Lexington. UPS spokesman Glenn Zaccara told CNN that 12 employees were at the site. Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.In a message on Twitter, the Lexington Fire Department said, "Nothing leads us to believe this is anything other than an accidental explosion."Fire officials also tweeted that six people were taken to the hospital for observation.Initial reports indicate the cause may have been a leak from materials contained in a trailer, Zaccara said.Lt. Jessica Bowman, the fire department's public information officer, said the building is used for truck and trailer maintenance and that there are other UPS buildings in the area that are still in use."There was significant damage to the building. A large area of the roof was blown out and interior walls were knocked down, as well as exterior damage. There's pieces of the roof and insulation on the ground," Bowman said. "There is no life hazard. Crews are on the scene stabilizing the building."UPS is working with local authorities and won't provide additional details while there is an ongoing investigation, officials said.An FBI statement obtained by CNN Law Enforcement Analyst Josh Campbell said the agency "is aware of the incident and is working with our local and state partners to assist as needed.
