But her ex, Jerrontae Cain, had a secret -- he had shot her.Thursday, a judge sentenced Cain, 39, to 25 years in prison for several crimes including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon. Cain had been convicted of felony sexual battery in 2010.For a month after the shooting in 2017, the woman stayed at Cain's mother's house, suffering through severe headaches, dealing with memory loss and having trouble when she tried to talk, according to a news release from the Fulton County District Attorney's office. In June that year, a friend took her to the hospital.Doctors at Atlanta Medical Center found a bullet in the back of her skull, one that would have to remain there because trying to take it out could kill her, the DA's office said.Hospital staff alerted investigators, and the woman told them she didn't remember being shot -- she just recalled the window breaking.Cain told police the woman, now 42, had crashed her car into a tree. But detectives found the crime scene inconsistent with his explanation, according to the DA's office.They issued an arrest warrant but Cain was not caught until January 2019, more than a year later, when police showed up at a home in College Park, just south of Atlanta. He hid in an attic during a two-hour standoff until he surrendered, the DA's office said.Cain was also sentenced to five years of probation to be served after his prison term. 1738

A 12-year veteran of the New York Police Department is accused of putting a hit on her ex-husband and a juvenile girl.A confidential source told the FBI that in February Valerie Cincinelli, 34, had asked him to hire a hitman to kill her estranged husband and the source's daughter, according to court documents.Cincinelli allegedly gave the source ,000 in cash to pay the hitman, and over the next few months they discussed how to kill the two and establish solid alibis, the documents said.Cincinelli allegedly told the source to make her husband's death look like a robbery and to run over the source's daughter -- a minor-- with a car.Authorities say she tracked the girl's whereabouts on social media and plotted how to arrange their deaths with the source until Friday, when she was told by a Suffolk County Police Department detective that her estranged husband had died and there would be an investigation. ST. PAUL, Minn. – The governor of Minnesota has called for order to be restored in the state amid violent protests over the death George Floyd. During a Friday press conference, Gov. Tim Walz and other state leaders addressed the public safety concerns the Twin Cities are facing as protesters take to the streets demanding justice for Floyd’s death. “We have to restore order to our society before we can address the issues,” said Walz.Watch the press conference below: Floyd was arrested Monday after a grocery store employee called the police to report someone trying to pass a counterfeit bill. A 10-minute video of Floyd’s arrest soon circulated online. The video shot by a bystander shows a Minneapolis police officer pressing his knee on Floyd’s neck while the man gasps for air with his face against the pavement. Floyd then lost consciousness and was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Four officers involved in Floyd’s death were fired Tuesday by the Minneapolis Police Department. And on Friday, the former officer who knelt on Floyd's neck was charged with murder and manslaughter. Walz said it is his expectation the justice for the officers involved in Floyd’s death “will be swift” and “fair.” And, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison echoed the governor’s call for “swift” justice. “I believe that the message has been sent and received that the wheels of justice turn swiftly,” said Ellison. “No unjustly, expeditiously, thoroughly, fairly, but swiftly.” For the past three nights, protesters angered by Floyd’s death have grown increasingly violent.
