SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Lifeguards Thursday rescued a 17-year-old girl who fell while hiking at Blacks Beach near Torrey Pines.Lifeguards say the teen was hiking with two other teenagers near Box Canyon about 1:30 p.m. when she fell at least 12 feet into a creek bed.A San Diego Fire-Rescue helicopter flew her to safety. Lifeguards helped the girl's companions walk down to the beach.The girl injured her leg and possibly her head. She was taken to Scripps Hospital in La Jolla.Lifeguards said three other people were rescued about the same time, including one person who started climbing down the cliff and became too scared to go up or down.Watch video from the scene in the player below:  711

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Local gym owners are faced with another difficult decision as San Diego County moves into the purple tier, the most restrictive of the state’s classifications of COVID-19 spread.Under the new regulations, gyms may not operate indoors, meaning those who cannot operate outdoors will be mandated to close.The restrictions take effect Saturday.RELATED: County moves into California's COVID-19 purple tier“You want your members happy. You want your staff happy. You’ve got to put food on your table. And you’re trying to do the right thing, you’re wearing a mask and you’re indoors, so it’s going to be just an unbelievable, worrisome time,” said Bryan Welch, general manager of the Point Loma Sports Club.Welch said the new restrictions will not have a significant impact on his gym because the Point Loma Sports Club had already moved 90% of its operations outside. But he said he empathizes with gyms that do not have usable outdoor space or a cooperative landlord.Even some gym owners that can move outside may not choose to do so. They say limits would force them to operate at an untenable loss, leaving them to choose between operating indoors in violation of public health orders or going out of business. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Mayor Kevin Faulconer detailed his plan to bolster San Diego's infrastructure in a proposed budget Tuesday.The plan calls for a total of about 3 million in investments into the city's streets, parks, and water system — among other improvements. The investment in infrastructure is the largest in San Diego's history, according to the mayor's office.The investments are part of the mayor's proposed .8 billion budget, which City Council leaders are set to adopt at a June 11 meeting.RELATED: San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer unveils 2019 budget"After decades of neglect, we have a lot more to do, which is why I’m focused on fixing more streets, building more parks and making more neighborhood upgrades than ever before," Faulconer said in a release. "We also need to invest in aging buildings like those in Balboa Park so they stand the test of time and that’s exactly what this budget will do."Here's a look at some of the financial commitments the mayor's plan proposes:Pure Water: Among the commitments is a 1 million investment into Pure Water San Diego to create an independent, drought-proof local water supply for San Diego. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - In a graphic display, a former charter boat captain demonstrated Wednesday how to make the knots found on Rebecca Zahau’s body, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.Zahau was discovered bound and hanging from a balcony of the Spreckels Mansion in Coronado in 2011.While the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office determined the death was a suicide, Zahau’s family believes she was murdered.The Zahau family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Adam Shacknai, the brother of Rebecca’s boyfriend and the only other person in the home at the time of her death.Lindsey Philpott used a lifelike mannequin covered with a white sheet to show the overhand and clove hitch knots, which, according to the U-T report, Philpott said were common for nautical uses.Shacknai works as a tugboat captain.Philpott said under cross-examination that both knots are simple and widely used, the Union-Tribune reported.The Zahau wrongful death trial, which was in its fifth day Wednesday, is expected to last four weeks. 1034
