SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Carlos woman says a buzzing sound caught her off guard at home. When she looked around, she spotted a drone hovering near her bedroom window, peering in.  Yvette Skalka was hanging her laundry in the backyard on September 6 when she heard the noise. She says she looked up and a small, white drone. “It hovered for a good 3 to 5 minutes.  It gave me an uneasy feeling. It didn’t feel right,” said Skalka.The drone flew up to the top of a palm on the property for a few minutes, before flying back down.“It was near three dogs and driving them crazy, like it was tormenting them,” said Skalka.Eventually, the drone flew off.  Skalka filed a police report and posted details on the Nextdoor app.  Another neighbor responded that she believed the same drone has recently hovered near her ground-floor bedroom, watching her college-age daughter.  That family also filed a police report. 956

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new study by Zillow shows that homebuyers with lower credit scored pay more for the same homes than buyers with excellent credit scores.According to Zillow, borrowers with excellent credit scores could get a mortgage with a 4.5 percent annual percentage rate.Borrowers with a fair credit score could get a 5.1 percent rate. Over the lifetime of a 30-year mortgage, that means a buyer with a fair credit score may end up paying an additional ,000 over the lifetime of the loan.In San Diego, where the median home value in March of 2018 was 5,300, Zillow estimates that homebuyers with fair credit will pay ,000 for the same home.The difference is only amplified in more expensive markets, Zillow says. In addition, the penalty for lower credit scores tends to be higher."When you buy a home, your financial history determines your financial future," said Zillow senior economist Aaron Terrazas. "Homebuyers with weaker credit end up paying substantially higher costs over the lifetime of a home loan. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local brewery's decision to use compostable can holders is the latest example of San Diego companies deciding to go green.Pure Project Brewery made the change last month, giving its customers an easier way to take home 4-packs of beer while still being environmentally friendly."You have to make that decision; do I wanna do the right thing, or do I wanna do the cheap thing," says Pure Project Co-Founder Mat Robar. He says every decision his company makes takes the environmental impact into account."It costs us a good amount of money to brew beer with organic and local ingredients, and sometimes it takes a little longer. Ultimately it's the right thing to do," says Robar.The new can holders are made of recycled grain, leftover from the brewing process. They biodegrade in 200 days. And, if they wind up in the ocean by accident, they're safe for animals to eat.Pure is one of the hundreds of San Diego companies emphasizing the planet over profits.Right now, the San Diego Green Business Network lists more than 200 local companies as members.Experts say it can help build a brand, attract a loyal customer base, and also help make money in the long run."The efficiencies of going green has significant business implications," says Heather Honea, the Chair of the Marketing Department at SDSU's Fowler College of Business."If you're trying to build a brand that's meaningful for consumers, you have to speak to the things they care about. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A hero’s homecoming 75 years in the making. Wednesday, a World War II Marine killed in action was laid to rest at Miramar National Cemetery. "To all my fellow marines who gave their all the world is free because of you, God rest your soul."Up until now Nancy Lee lived a lifetime of not knowing - not knowing her older brother Staff Sergeant Wesley Kroenung, and not knowing what happened to him at war. "You can only imagine the sacrifice they made that day."Kroenung was a combat cameraman, just 25 years old when he died during the Battle of Tarawa, moments after landing. His remains left on the island, listed as unknown… leaving an irreparable wound for his father and family back home."He was never the same, I never knew him as a happy man. I know every family affected like this feels like this."But decades later Lee held onto hope for answers, submitting a DNA sample to the military. Not long after, the answers came in a phone call. "When I got that call, I'm so thankful and think of every family, the sis happening all over, every family now knowing the truth, and it means a whole lot."And now a proper homecoming for his final resting place. "Complete strangers, they don't know anyone in the family, they just know he served his country, he died and is being brought home, it's as if it were yesterday.""Finally having him here home with us during my moms lifetime is just really a miracle, unbelievable."After a lifetime of not knowing, this moment was well worth the wait. 1521
