President Donald Trump on Friday promoted the House Intelligence Committee's findings on Russian meddling in the 2016 election as a way to vindicate himself from the investigation into potential collusion between his campaign and Russia."House Intelligence Committee votes to release final report. FINDINGS: (1) No evidence provided of Collusion between Trump Campaign & Russia. (2) The Obama Administrations Post election response was insufficient. (3) Clapper provided inconsistent testimony on media contacts," Trump wrote on Twitter. The committee voted along party lines Thursday to release the Republican report on Russian meddling, which concludes the committee found no evidence of collusion between Trump's team and Russian officials. Its findings also include that Russia conducted cyberattacks against US political institutions and sought to use social media to undermine the election. However, the report does not match the intelligence community's conclusion that Russian President Vladimir Putin was trying to help Trump win the presidency.Democrats on the committee, however, rejected the report and accused their Republican colleagues of failing to conduct a proper investigation. While Republicans say Thursday's vote marks the end of the House Intelligence Committee's probe, Democrats plan on pushing forward with their own investigation.  1372

President Donald Trump is expected to address the media Friday afternoon at 5 ET following a report citing several unnamed sources claiming Trump made disparaging remarks about military servicemembers killed in the line of duty. The report was published late on Thursday by the Atlantic and immediately prompted Trump to react. Sources told the Atlantic that Trump called fallen servicemembers “losers” and “suckers.”Trump, who usually does not speak to the media when returning to the White House on trips, responded late Thursday night by denying the report’s accuracy. On Friday, rather than holding a typical White House news briefing, press secretary Kayleigh McEnany made a statement denying the report and left the briefing room without taking questions. In addition to the Atlantic’s story, the Associated Press, Washington Post and Fox News were able to independently confirm the accuracy of much of the report with their sources. 944

President Donald Trump has nominated Amy Coney Barrett as his choice to become the next Associate Justice to the Supreme Court. This is the third vacancy while Trump has been president.Trump’s announcement Saturday is eight days after the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Trump reflected on Ginsburg's passing, saying the country “mourned the loss of a true American legend. She was a legal giant and a pioneer for women.”Barrett also spoke about Ginsburg and her legacy for women in the legal profession and all Americans. She clerked for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia in 1998 and 1999. Scalia and Ginsburg had a close friendship, despite their strong legal disagreements. Barrett talked about their relationship as a role model for being able to disagree on matters of law, while not attacking colleagues or getting personal.Like Scalia, she is a committed Roman Catholic as well as a firm devotee of his favored interpretation of the Constitution known as originalism.“Amy Coney Barrett will decide cases based on the constitution as written," President Trump said of his nominee. “A judge must apply the law as written. Judges are not policy makers," Barrett said during Saturday's nomination event. Her legal writings and speeches show a commitment to originalism, a concept that involves justices endeavoring to decipher original meanings of texts in assessing whether someone’s rights have been violated. Many liberals say that approach is too rigid and doesn’t allow the Constitution’s consequences to adjust to vastly changing times.President Trump called on lawmakers to begin hearings to confirm Barrett, saying it should be a "straightforward and prompt" process. He called Barrett a "woman of unparalleled achievement” and "very eminently qualified for the job."Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says the Senate will vote "in the weeks ahead" on Barrett's nomination, according to the Associated Press. Meanwhile, former vice president and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden released a statement Saturday calling on senators to wait until after the election to vote on the nomination of a new Supreme Court justice. "The Senate should not act on this vacancy until after the American people select their next president and the next Congress," Biden's statement reads. Barrett was previously confirmed to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in 2017, and at the time, her confirmation was supported by three democrats: Joe Donnelly, Tim Kaine and Joe Manchin.Barrett has seven children, including two adopted from Haiti. Her husband, Jesse, and children were at the White House for Saturday's nomination ceremony.Watch Saturday's event live on Facebook. 2696

President Donald Trump is going after the Fed again. He told Reuters he was "not thrilled" with Fed Chairman Jerome Powell for raising interest rates. President Donald Trump pushed back at former first lady Michelle Obama and former President Barack Obama over a forthcoming memoir in which the former first lady said she would "never forgive" Trump for his role in the "birther" movement."She got paid a lot of money to write a book and they always expect a little controversy," Trump said."I'll give you a little controversy back, I'll never forgive (President Barack Obama) for what he did to our US military. It was depleted, and I had to fix it," Trump said. "What he did to our military made this country very unsafe for you and you and you."The former first lady writes in her new memoir that she will never forgive Trump for his role in promoting the "birther" conspiracy theory that falsely claimed that her husband was not born in the United States. She writes that Trump's central role in pushing the falsehood put her family at risk."What if someone with an unstable mind loaded a gun and drove to Washington? What if that person went looking for our girls?" she wrote in her book, according to The Washington Post. "Donald Trump, with his loud and reckless innuendos, was putting my family's safety at risk. And for this I'd never forgive him."The-CNN-Wire 1226
