BEIJING, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- China hopes to work with the United States to maintain a healthy and stable relationship which benefits the people of both countries and the world, said Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo on Wednesday. "Sino-U.S. relations are at a crucial point linking the past to the future," Dai told the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John D. Negroponte, who was here to honor the 30th anniversary of Sino-U.S. relations. Dai said China and the U.S. shared common interests and consolidated a strategic foundation. This paved the way for further development of the relationship. He summarized four achievements in Sino-U.S. relations made during the Bush administration. --The two countries confirmed the relationship as stakeholders and constructive cooperators. --The two heads of state maintained frequent contacts. --High-level strategic dialogues were institutionalized to promote mutual trust and cooperation. --Cooperation in all areas deepened such as major international and regional issues. "Sino-U.S. relations have made remarkable progress over the past three decades and this linked the two countries closely," Dai said. Negroponte said both the U.S. and China were important countries in the world and needed more dialogue and cooperation to safeguard global security and stability. The strategic dialogue and the strategic and economic dialogue were two effective mechanisms and should be continued, he said.
BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Tuesday spoke over phone with his U.S. counterpart George W. Bush about international cooperation to cope with the ongoing global financial turmoil. The leaders exchanged ideas about the planned international financial summits and strengthening international cooperation to stabilize the financial markets. Bush said the United States hopes to make joint efforts with the international community to seek measures to overcome the crisis and maintain the stability of the world economy. Hu, for his part, said China has noted the efforts made by the U.S. government to stabilize the domestic financial market. He expressed hope that the measures would take effect as soon as possible, restore investor confidence and prevent further expansion of the crisis. The measures are conducive to the stability of the world economy and financial markets, Hu said. The Chinese government has taken a series of important measures to tackle the financial crisis and maintain the stability of financial and capital markets, as well as ensure steady economic growth, he added. The government of China will continue to assume a responsible attitude toward the Chinese people and people of other countries, and to work closely with the international community to maintain the stability of the global economy and financial markets, President Hu said.

BEIJING, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Tuesday called for more efforts to consolidate and develop an equal, unified, cooperative and harmonious relationship among all ethnic groups. All ethnic groups were inseparable, he said at a meeting with a 49-strong delegation of minority role models and local leaders in Beijing. Authorities in minority areas should work to rebuild shared growth and prosperity, and implement policies on minority regional development. The delegation from southwest China is scheduled to visit Shanghai, and southern China after leaving Beijing. BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki exchanged views over the phone Friday on promoting further development of bilateral relations in 2009 and international and regional issues of common concern. On the situation in the Gaza Strip, Yang said China is seriously concerned and deeply worried about the grave humanitarian crisis caused by the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. China has made unremitting efforts to promote adoption by the United Nations Security Council of a relevant resolution on Gaza, Yang said. He said China welcomes and supports U.N. Security Council Resolution 1860 and urges all the parties concerned to fully honor the resolution, cease fire immediately, ensure smooth operation of humanitarian assistance and promote an early relaxation of the humanitarian crisis taking place in Gaza. China has always proposed that the issue of Palestine be resolved through political negotiation on the basis of related U.N. resolutions, the "Land for Peace" principle and the Arab Peace Initiative, he added.
