SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A parole board Tuesday granted parole to an actor previously convicted of stabbing his ex-girlfriend nearly two dozen times.Shelley Malil, who had a supporting role in the movie “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” was convicted seven years ago of repeatedly stabbing Kendra Beebe in San Marcos.Beebe spoke to 10News after Malil was granted Parole. “Why are we letting out this person who’s going to go back out and go back on the internet and date and possibly relapse and hurt somebody else.” RELATED: 40-Year-Old Virgin actor deemed suitable for parole, 10 years after brutally stabbing ex-girlfriendAs of this year, Malil had served 9 years of his 12-years-to-life sentence. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Mesa College professor has pulled thousands of World War II-era letters out of the archives at San Diego State University and written a new book highlighting the Aztecs' contributions to the war effort."No Forgotten Fronts" tells the story of Dr. Loren Post, a professor at SDSU during the war. He asked students to write him letters so he could keep in touch. He then took their letters and created "The Aztec News Letter" so students and families could keep in touch with each other during the war."The letters are very compelling," said Lisa Shapiro, who wrote the book. "They're inspirational and emotional."As a professor at Mesa College, Shapiro wanted a way to understand what some of her Veteran students had gone through. She heard about the letters and started reading them."Once I started, I couldn't stop," she said. "Little by little, what happens is you start to find the stories."Shapiro decided to turn those stories into a book, so more people could learn about the contributions SDSU students made during the war."That was the promise that Dr. Post made," she said. "No one would ever be forgotten."Shapiro said the newsletters that Dr. Post wrote became must-reads around campus. Over time they evolved from simple type-written pages to full-fledged publications."He didn't sugar-coat things," said Shapiro, noting that the newsletters had information about who had died, went missing or been injured. But they also had good news from campus to keep the soldiers connected to their home."By taking their words and sending them back out and showing them they weren't forgotten, this one professor made such an incredible difference in the lives of his students."Shapiro also noted that, through the letters, you get an excellent history of the entire war."You have eyewitness accounts of battles, this is what it feels like to jump out of an airplane. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A new study looks at the number of drunk driving arrests in cities since ridesharing apps were created.San Diego was included in Moll Law Group study, which found DUI arrests fell 32 percent since Uber launched in June 2012. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was stabbed to death in a Pacific Beach bathroom Sunday, and a man possibly linked to the incident was arrested, according to San Diego Police.SDPD officials said the stabbing was reported just after 7:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Grand Avenue as an assault with a deadly weapon with an injured man.Firefighters and lifeguards were the first arrive, and they found a 39-year-old white male bleeding from the upper torso in a men's bathroom, according to police. First aid was given within minutes and the man was taken to a hospital, but he died from his injuries.Police said witnesses reported seeing a man riding away from the scene on a bicycle immediately following the incident. A man matching witness descriptions was detained about a quarter-mile away from the scene and was questioned, according to SDPD officials.On Monday, officials announced 33-year-old Martin Alvarez was arrested and booked into County Jail on suspicion of murder.Police are not aware of any relationship between the victim and the suspect.Police are looking into whether cameras at nearby businesses have any video of the events surrounding the stabbing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A missing former Navy SEAL reported missing earlier this month has been found, according to police.San Diego Police said Johnathan Steven Surmont, 45, was located in Los Angeles during the time he was reported missing.RELATED: San Diego Police searching for missing Navy SEAL veteran"A citizen" called SDPD to tell them Surmont was in Los Angeles, at which point the department's Missing Persons Unit confirmed the information."Although Surmont’s current whereabouts are not known to SDPD, he is no longer considered at-risk or a missing person," the department said in a release.Surmont was reported missing after he was last seen in August, telling his wife he was in a "rough place" in Los Angeles, according to a missing person bulletin from the SDPD. His vehicle was found four days later, on Sept. 3, in La Jolla. 866
