More than seven months after Hurricane Irma a Vero Beach, Florida woman is still feeling the effects of the damage. Her vehicle was totaled from flooding and sold. But that sale is still costing her because of one item she left behind on the car: her license plate. Now, her family wants to keep anyone else from making the same costly mistake.Jamie Portell’s mother lives at Indian River Estates assisted living in Vero Beach.Portell rode out the storm with her mother there. The next morning, they realized her mother’s car flooded.“The seats, the electric, she couldn’t adjust anything,” Portell explained. The carpet was soaked. They called the woman’s insurance company, State Farm, and said someone came out, looked at the car, totaled it and arranged for it to be towed away.About a week later, Portell said she took her mother to a local State Farm location to pick up a check.“We didn’t think anything more about the car, until about four months later she received, from the state of New Jersey, a bill with the picture of the back of her car,” Portell said. The letter was a toll road fine.“She was very upset not knowing what had happened to the car,” Portell said.  They called State Farm and asked the agency to take care of the mishap.“Another 3-4 weeks later, she gets another bill from the state of New Jersey with another picture of her car,” Portell said. It was another fine.“Called the insurance company again and said 'I thought this was taken care of, can you please look into it, ' ” Portell said. This month, they did not get a bill and hope this matter has been resolved. But, they learned a lesson.“Definitely remove your plates. You don’t think about those things needing to be done, you just assume your agency is going to take care of that,” Portell said.A State Farm spokesperson told Scripps station WPTV in West Palm Beach in a statement: "While I am unable to speak to the specifics of this claim due to customer privacy reasons, I can share in general that we typically encourage customers to remove all personal belongings and items from the total loss vehicle prior to being towed, including their personal license plate. State Farm works with an auto salvage vendor to dispose of the salvage vehicle in the form of a salvage sale. If personal property was not removed from the vehicle, that property may remain on the vehicle throughout the sale. We encourage customers to contact their claim representative should they discover personal property has remained on the vehicle, so measures can be taken with the customer to help track down personal property." 2633

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Pregnant women in the healthcare industry are wondering if they should get the COVID-19 vaccine since it's available to them following the emergency use authorization. At Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Dr. Jennifer Thompson, an associate professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, said the risks associated with getting COVID-19 while pregnant are far worse than the risks associated with the vaccine. Thompson said, "They have increased risk of hospitalization, need for ICU, mechanical ventilation, and a slight increase risk in death compared to non-pregnant patients." She said her recommendation pertains to the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for her patients who are pregnant, or trying to get pregnant. “So because of that increased risk, women who are pregnant are considered a higher risk group, and so therefore many of our organizations the CDC, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine recommend that the COVID-19 vaccine should not be withheld from pregnant individuals who meet criteria for vaccination based on their recommended priority group,” Thompson said.Dr. Thomspon practices what she preaches. "I actually received my vaccine on Friday, so I’m not concerned at this point about the long-term safety data," Thompson said. She noted that she’s had no side effects yet. While pregnant women were excluded from the trials, some women joined not knowing they were pregnant. Dr. Thompson said they’ve been following those cases closely. "These numbers are really small, but we have not seen significant adverse reactions both from a pregnancy standpoint or a fetal standpoint," Thompson said.Unfortunately, there's a lot of misinformation out there. There was an article circulating online which said the vaccine could cause infertility. Dr. Thompson said there’s no evidence to support that. "There’s some concern that the spike protein has a similar genetic makeup to one of the proteins in the placenta, however that similarity is less than 1%, and infertility has not been found from any of the scientific data," Thompson said. In addition, the COVID-19 vaccine is believed to be safe for women who are breast-feeding. Live vaccines are not recommended for pregnant women, but the COVID-19 vaccine is not live. “It’s an mRNA vaccine which is broken down by the body, and not incorporated into your DNA at all,” Thompson said, “Fetal risks are thought to be low due to the fact that the mRNA is broken down by your circulation and pre-clinical studies have been very reassuring.”If you have questions, talk to your doctor. Thompson said, "What we know about the vaccine, and what we don’t know about the vaccine, is in those shared decision-making discussions for patients in deciding what’s best for them."Moving forward, there's an effort to have registries available for pregnant women who received the vaccine through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention according to Thompson. This article was written by Alexandra Koehn for WTVF. 3057

Musician T.I. was named in an investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday in a fraudulent initial coin offering scheme. The SEC said T.I. will not be criminally charged, but settled on a ,000 fine and he has agreed to not participate in offerings or sales of digital-asset securities for at least five years.Film producer Ryan Felton is facing criminal charges, allegedly promised to build a digital streaming platform for FLiK, and a digital-asset trading platform for CoinSpark. Instead, Felton allegedly misappropriated the funds raised in the initial coin offerings, the SEC said.Felton is facing charges of violating registration, anti-fraud, and anti-manipulation provisions of the federal securities laws.T.I. was allegedly involved in promoting Felton’s scheme. The SEC said that T.I., and his social media manager William Sparks, Jr., offered FLiK tokens on T.I.’s social media accounts.“The federal securities laws provide the same protections to investors in digital asset securities as they do to investors in more traditional forms of securities,” said Carolyn M. Welshhans, Associate Director in the Division of Enforcement. “As alleged in the SEC’s complaint, Felton victimized investors through material misrepresentations, misappropriation of their funds, and manipulative trading.”Felton was also accused of manipulative trading to inflate the price of SPARK tokens. The SEC said that Felton made an addition .2 million in profits, and used money he allegedly misappropriated to buy a Ferrari, a million-dollar home, diamond jewelry, and other luxury goods. 1608
