WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Roses are red and Ken Lerman’s suit is too.If you see his bouquets, he has a message for you.The 55-year-old loves to love and he now uses roses to let people know it.There’s some pain behind Lerman’s purpose.His, “Roses for Change,” campaign began this summer after he and people across the country witnessed the fallout following the death of George Floyd while in police custody.“How can one human being do that to another human being, I was crying when I saw it,” says Lerman.Armed with roses and a message of love Lerman says he wanted to reach those most affected.“I gotta give this to all the African Americans, they’re hurting,” he tells WPTV.His message has since caught on both online and in Palm Beach County where he regularly shares love and roses to people of all colors. We caught up with Lerman with a hundred of his favorite flowers in hand at the Milagro Center in Delray BeachHigh Schooler, Dachinise Philbert, says, “I was surprised and I was like oh I love you too.”A lot of these teens say it’s been a while since they’ve heard those words directed at them and even longer since they’ve been given flowers.Philbert says, “It was kind of weird at first I was like roses? Although Columbus was the first European to explore the Americas since the Vikings established colonies in the 10th century, the History Channel says he viewed the native people as obstacles.Columbus is accused of labeling the indigenous people as “Indians.” Other points of controversy revolve around the use of violence and slavery, the forced conversion of native people to Christianity, and the introduction of deadly diseases.As a result of these points, Native Americans and other groups have protested the celebration of Columbus Day, viewing it as a celebration of the colonization of America, the beginning of the slave trade, and the deaths of natives from murder and disease.In the past few years, there’s been a movement to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples’ Day, which honors Native American histories and cultures. White House press secretary Sarah Sanders issued a rare correction Tuesday night after falsely declaring that President Donald Trump has created three times as many jobs for African-American workers as former President Barack Obama did during his two terms in office."Correction from today's briefing: Jobs numbers for Pres Trump and Pres Obama were correct, but the time frame for Pres Obama wasn't. Two types of vaccines are expected to begin being distributed this month and both require two doses 28 days apart.Dr. Anthony Fauci said during a CNN town hall on Friday that the first vaccine is the “prime” vaccine dose, and the second one is a booster. The two vaccines, one from Pfizer and the other Moderna, are expected to receive an FDA emergency use authorization in the coming weeks.Fauci said another vaccine, one produced by Johnson and Johnson, would only require one shot. But Fauci cautioned that the data from that vaccine candidate has not been reviewed. The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are showing an efficacy of 95%, and both vaccines had a near 100% effectiveness against severe coronavirus cases.While the first shot will offer some protection against the virus, Fauci says that the boost will give Americans “optimal” protection against the virus.“What you have is you get some degree, not optimal, but some degree of immunity a couple of weeks after the first dose,” Fauci said. “That's not optimal. When the US reaches herd immunity, that is when social distancing measures can be eased, Fauci says.
