The U.S. Air Force has released preliminary information on an inspection across the Air Force Academy grounds to determine if there elevated levels of chemicals found in firefighting foam and other industrial products in the ground and groundwater. As a result, the Air Force will begin inspecting drinking wells south of the Academy, including the Woodmen Valley area, for potential contamination. According to a release, the results show groundwater samples contain levels higher than the Environmental Protection Agency Lifetime Health Advisory, which allows for 70 parts per trillion. These compounds have not been detected in water supplied by Colorado Springs Utilities to the Air Force Academy, according to the release. The statement references voluntary sampling conducted in January showed results at or below the EPA limit of 10 parts per trillion for water supplies. As a result of the higher than acceptable levels found on-base, Air Force officials will now coordinate to test drinking water wells south of the government-owned property. The chemicals involved are Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), part of the family of 1185

The Supreme Court said Tuesday that a provision of an Indiana law which said the state may prohibit abortions motivated solely by race, sex or disability should remain blocked. The court, however, did say it would allow part of the law that allows clinics to bury or cremate fetal remains to take effect. The fact that the court decided not to take up the more controversial provision of the Indiana law suggests that there is not a current appetite on the court to move aggressively to question the court's core abortion precedents of Roe v. Wade and Casey v. Planned Parenthood. Still, supporters of abortion rights will be disappointed and worried that the justices allowed the fetal tissue provision to go into effect. The law was 744

The Supreme Court on Friday upheld a federal judge's order blocking the Trump administration's new asylum restrictions.Chief Justice John Roberts sided with the four liberal justices in the 5-4 ruling. The administration's policy, signed on November 9, would temporarily bar migrants who illegally cross into the US through the southern border from seeking asylum outside of official ports of entry. A federal judge in California quickly blocked the order, and the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals agreed."It's a major blow to the Trump administration, and sends a strong signal that there are at least five Justices who agree with the district court that the asylum ban exceeds the President's statutory authority," said Steve Vladeck, CNN Supreme Court analyst and professor at the University of Texas School of Law.Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh said they would have granted the administration's request to lift the hold on the ban. This is the first high-profile vote in which Kavanaugh broke from Roberts. Earlier this year, he and Roberts joined with liberals to rebuff efforts by states seeking to eliminate 1166
