SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — FBI investigators are looking for an armed suspect who stormed into a Mira Mesa bank Wednesday and ransacked the bank's vault.The man stormed into the Cal Coast Credit Union located at 9825 Mira Mesa Blvd. just before 10 a.m. Wednesday. The man, who was wearing a mask and hood, jumped on a counter and made verbal demands to the bank's tellers.The man displayed a handgun, ordered several employees to the ground, and demanded access to the bank's vault, investigators say.While inside the vault, the man empties a recycling bin and used it to collect cash from the vault. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Explosions in a fake Mission Valley city teach the public and West Coast gas employees how to save lives.Training Supervisor Scott Hazlett says it's as easy as calling 8-1-1 two days before you plan to do any digging on your property.The importance highlighted after a Murrieta home exploded Monday from an ignited natural gas leak, killing one man and forcing four families out of their homes."There's a lot of potential sources of ignition, cigarette liters, cellphones, cameras, drones anything like that can actually you know ignite the gas, and create what you saw here today," Hazlett said after demonstrating what 60 lbs. of natural gas pressure lit on fire looks like. Onlookers described it as a fireball, with heat radiating feet in all directions.The lines are generally between two and three feet underground. "I wouldn't say anyone's safe... Anytime you're moving the earth other than with your hand any kind of shovel, you need to call that number," he said.An SDGE employee will come out within two days after the call, mark where the natural gas lines are around your property, and do it all for free.Hazlett said accidents happen often and the number of calls for repairs skyrocketed in 2018. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Get ready for sunny days at SeaWorld this summer, as the cast of a television favorite comes to San Diego.SeaWorld will host Sesame Street favorites including Elmo, Cookie Monster, and others with themed floats, music, and two performances along the parade route during the Sesame Street Party Parade.The parade will feature 10 massive floats depicting the areas kids know and love, like Mr. Hooper's Store and the Count's Castle.More than 20 dancers will jump and jive alongside Elmo down the parade route, along with a cast of furry friends.During the two mid-parade shows, performers will jump rope, hula hoop, and groove to guests' delight. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Evacuees at MCAS Miramar have circulated a petition at the base after a coronavirus patient was mistakenly reintroduced to those under quarantine.The petition, which begins by thanking the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suggests several actions be taken at Miramar to mitigate the potential spread of the virus.Samples from three patients brought to UC San Diego Medical Center were not labeled consistently with CDC regulations, leading to results being returned as negative, when in reality, the samples were not tested.RELATED: Mislabeled sample led to release of COVID-19 patientOne of those patients ended up testing positive for coronavirus. She was placed under self-isolation at the base before being brought back to the hospital.The petition:Following the confusion, a petition — written in both English and Chinese by an unknown author — suggested several precautions be taken in the future:"Everyone in the facility be tested;Preventing the gathering of large numbers of people into small, enclosed environments. The alternatives we suggest are the following:In room temperature taking in the morning;Meals delivered to the door;Townhalls through conference calls;Periodic delivery of personal protective gear to each room including masks and sanitizing alcohol for in room disinfection;Provision of hand sanitizer at the front desk and in the playground; andDisinfection of public areas 2-3 times/day including playground, laundry room, door knobs, etc."The petition adds that, "CDC’s current working assumption is the virus won’t spread until symptoms develop. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- High school sports in San Diego County and across California will happen during the 2020-21 school year but on a modified schedule that will push the start for fall sports, such as football, to early winter.The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Monday released a schedule that shows the last date for Section and Regional/State Championships. Fall sports' championships, according to the schedule, shows end dates in March and April. The schedule shows spring sports, including soccer, basketball, and track and field, with championship end dates in May and June.CIF officials said that “most Section start dates will commence in December 2020 or January 2021.”In a press release posted on its website, the CIF San Diego Section said:The California Interscholastic Federation, San Diego Section (CIF-SDS) is excited to see the foundations of a plan to return high school athletics throughout the state of California for the 2020-2021 school year. Today’s announcement from the state office provides our section with the information necessary to finalize the calendars and schedules for all of our CIF regulated sports, while also acknowledging the importance of the health and safety of our student athletes and coaches by pushing the official start date back to align with the Roadmap to Recovery set by the state of California.Specifics of the plan provides for two seasons of sport, which will serve to maximize the length of each season while not eliminating any athletic opportunities in a reduced athletic calendar for the year.
