SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two people were injured after a fire broke out on a boat in Mission Bay, engulfing the vessel, Thursday.San Diego Fire-Rescue responded to the fire on the 30-foot vessel off Ingraham St. just after 3 p.m.Two people were burned by flames and jumped from the boat. They were transported to UCSD Medical Center, though the extent of their injuries is unknown.Witnesses said they initially saw smoke but thought the fire would be extinguished. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- We've all seen the nasal swabs being pushed far up noses to test for coronavirus. And if you've had it done, you know it's uncomfortable. But more tests are being developed where all you have to do is spit into a tube."You basically open up your mouth, we collect a tiny bit of saliva and you're done. Your side is done," said Dr. Henry Ji, President and CEO of San Diego based Sorrento Theraputics.According to Ji, the biopharma company is on track to start producing a rapid saliva test developed by researchers at Columbia University.It's being called "COVI TRACE" and it can be used almost anywhere.It gives results in about 30 minutes, with the liquid color changing from red to yellow if it's positive for Covid-19.Preliminary results indicate the test has high accuracy rates.Sorrento also says "COVI TRACE" is highly sensitive, meaning it can detect the presence of Covid-19 very early on.Sorrento executives say they plan to submit the test for FDA approval within the next few weeks."While the FDA is reviewing and leading up to review we are gearing up to manufacture hundreds of thousands and millions of tests; eventually anticipating about a hundred million tests a month," said Sorrento's Henry Brunswick.As for the cost, Ji says they're trying to keep it widely affordable, at around .At this point there's no estimate for when the rapid saliva "COVI TRACE" test could be approved by the FDA, but Sorrento is submitting an emergency use request in hopes of speeding up the process. 1528

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Only in San Diego, an Easter egg hunt on the beach! Hundreds of kids were out in Mission Beach looking for eggs spread out in the sand. Belmont Park hosted the event for the 5th year in a row. Over 13,000 eggs were scattered in the sand, filled with candy, ride wristbands and food vouchers. The hunt was scheduled in age groups so the smaller children would also have a chance to find the prizes. A second Easter egg hunt happened inside of Belmont Park completely free to the public. The event is so popular that some traveled from out of state and even out of the country to have their kids look for the eggs in the sand. Some of the Easter eggs had golden tickets inside, with prizes worth up to .  763

While this is typical for a San Diego summer, there is one major difference in 2020.“We’re very conscious about crowds,” said Encinitas local Jennifer Marakovits.She and her husband Joe visited Del Mar Saturday afternoon. This is a new addition to the area. Del Mar’s city council voted to spend ,000 through the next four months to bring in extra deputies to help with mask and social distancing enforcement. The deputies will work a few four-hour shifts a week, changing the time, place, and location depending on the day.The deputy out Saturday afternoon held a stack of informational pamphlets and a box of face masks, which he handed out to anyone not wearing a mask who passed him. The goal is to keep the extra deputy taking educational actions similar to this, however, they could issue a citation that could cost up to ,000 for a violation.
