LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Three dozen scuba divers resumed their search Tuesday for the Canadian girl believed to have drowned in the San Vicente Reservoir. The 12-year-old girl was on a ski boat with six people, including her parents and younger sister, Saturday afternoon when she fell in the water and did not surface.Search teams later found the girl’s damaged life jacket five feet from the boat.RELATED: Search for missing 12-year-old at San Vicente Reservoir continues“The child was at the front of the boat. They were pulling an inflatable behind with the adults. As they come down on speed, the bow of the boat kind of slows and dips, and the child fell overboard,” Sgt. Bryan Brecht of the San Diego Police, Beach Team and Harbor Unit, said. The rescue became a recovery mission hours after the girl disappeared.Although the reservoir is extremely clear, with 20-foot visibility, there are bushes, trees and rocks below the water line, officials said.36 divers from the U.S. Border Patrol, Navy, San Diego Fire Department lifeguards, City of San Diego lake rangers, San Diego Harbor Police and the San Diego Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the scene Tuesday morning.Crews also have the assistance of technology from the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, City of San Diego Public Utilities Department, and Teledyne SeaBotix.Among the resources are three human remains search dogs on boats with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department. An AMR ambulance crew was placed on standby to assist in any medical emergencies. The Lakeside Fire Department volunteer logistics team also provided support for the search crews. The girl’s identity has not been released. San Diego Police said the girl’s family is from Canada and was visiting a local couple for the weekend.San Diego Police is asking anyone who was at the lake, who may have witnessed the accident, to contact them at 619-531-2000. 1908

Last year, there were numerous walkouts as teachers nationwide protested the lack of funding for public schools. As the new school year begins, the debate over funding isn’t going away. For many parents, getting their child a good education is a top priority. Democrats and Republicans alike can agree on that, but they tend to disagree on the ways to do it.One example: the broad issue of school choice.Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has been a strong advocate of using taxpayer dollars for charter, private and religious schools, saying it gives parents, including low-income families, more options on where they can send their children.“You have your more traditional Democrats who are saying, ‘No, we don't support, ever, pulling funding from public education to put it into private schools,” says Tiffany Cross, a Democratic strategist. “That devastates communities, as we've seen.” 895

LA POSTA RESERVATION, Calif. (KGTV) - A local Native American tribe is considering its legal options after one of their sacred sites was vandalized. At least 5 rocks in an area used by the La Posta Band of Mission Indians’ ancestors were spray painted over the weekend.“A lot people don’t understand they’re on the reservation here,” said Victor Estrada, Vice Chairmen of the La Posta Band of Mission Indians. La Posta Reservation is about 50 miles east of San Diego and was blanketed by snow last week prompting visitors to make the trek out to the high elevation to see it. “You can come out here and play in our snow, but don’t destroy our stuff,” said Estrada, “don’t spray paint your name and your family and say 'hey you were here.' We understand you were here, we know you were here.” Estrada says they found out who may have vandalized it through social media and that the tribe may prosecute, but would be open to the offenders cleaning it up themselves. Those claiming responsibility wrote a statement to 10News saying in part: “We are truly sorry as we were not aware that we were on sacred or tribal lands. My husband will be going up this weekend to clean up the writing on the rocks.” 1206
