RAMONA (CNS) - Deputies and firefighters came to the rescue Friday when five family members were overcome by heat exhaustion during a sweltering afternoon hike on Cedar Creek Falls Trail in eastern San Diego County.The emergency on the popular footpath northeast of El Capitan Reservoir near Ramona began about 2 p.m., amid temperatures in the mid-90s, according to Cal Fire and the National Weather Service.U.S. Forest Service personnel hiked about a mile and a half down the steep sun-baked trail to reach the exhausted group, which included at least one child. President George H.W. Bush, 93, was hospitalized Sunday morning, less than one day after his wife's Barbara memorial service, a Bush family spokesperson said on Monday. "President Bush was admitted to the Houston Methodist Hospital yesterday morning after contracting an infection that spread to his blood," Bush spokesman Jim McGrath said. "He is responding well to treatments and appears to be recovering." Bush's wife of 73 years Barbara Bush died last Tuesday after a period of failing health from COPD and heart disease. Recreational marijuana is now legal in Michigan after voters passed Proposal 1 during the midterm elections on Tuesday.The proposal was one of the most-talked-about issues on the ballot. It allows anyone 21 and older to legally carry 2.5 ounces of marijuana. “Obviously the results of today’s election were not what we hoped for. It is important to note that more Michiganders voted no on Proposal 18.1 than on the other two proposals," a spokesperson for Healthy and Productive Michigan said.The group was against proposal 1."While our side lost tonight, it is important to recognize the level of responsibility that now rests on the shoulders of those who have voted Yes," the spokesperson said. Michigan is now the 10th state in the United States and Washington D.C. that has legalized pot, but marijuana is still illegal when it comes to federal agencies.Anyone 21 and older living or visiting the state will be able to buy, possess and use marijuana and/or marijuana-infused edibles in the state. They can also grow up to 12 marijuana plants in their homes for personal use.The restrictions on that include a 10-ounce limit for marijuana kept at home and anything over 2.5 ounces to be in a locked container. There would also be a state licensing system through the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, which would cost the state millions of dollars to create. Publix has suspended its political contributions as it reevaluates its giving processes, the national grocery chain said in a statement on Friday. The announcement comes days after Parkland student activist David Hogg called for a "die-in" at the grocery store to protest its support for a Florida gubernatorial candidate backed by the National Rifle Association."We regret that our contributions have led to a divide in our community. We did not intend to put our associates and the customers they serve in the middle of a political debate," the company said in a statement.Publix added: "We would never knowingly disappoint our customers or the communities we serve.
