WESTMINSTER, Colo. — A family's lifeline was stolen right in front of their home on Tuesday morning. Someone took off in their 2004 Toyota Highlander with something even more valuable inside — an electric wheelchair. "She goes 'let me just go get the car; I'll be right back,' " said Candace Trujillo.Trujillo's mom drives her to work every morning because she's unable to drive herself. She has brittle bone disease and uses a wheelchair to get around. "I was born with 26 fractures," Trujillo said.Doctors didn't expect her to live past age 2. She's now 28 years old and works five days a week. The morning started off just like any other. Trujillo woke up at 3 a.m. to start getting ready for her job in customer service. She usually leaves the house around 5 a.m. Her mom will pull the car up, load the wheelchair and then help her into the car. On this cold morning, she left the car running and it was gone 10 minutes later."It also had my wheelchair on there, which are my legs. I can't go anywhere without those," said Trujillo. The ,000 power wheelchair was recovered three hours after the vehicle was stolen. It was abandoned approximately 15 minutes from their home."It's just been going on and on in my head all day, I just don't understand why," said Trujillo. The car is still missing, and without it, Trujillo has no idea how she's going to get to work."It's really awful. I don't even know how to describe it," she said. "I'm at a loss of words because the car is everything to us right now. We don't have one." 1581

When members enter the Schlessman Family YMCA, they’re greeted with new safety measures including getting their temperature taken at the front door.“We’re just ensuring that members, guests and staff are below a 100.4 fever,” said Vanessa Pritchett, sales director with the YMCA of Metropolitan Denver. She says most of the 24,000 YMCA locations across the country were shut down for nearly three months due to the pandemic. Now, with many YMCAs reopening, staff are taking extra steps to ensure member safety like using protective plexiglass at the entrance and having more hand sanitizer stations in more locations.“We really missed our members and we are so much more than a gym,” Pritchett said. “We are focusing on the mind, body and spirit of everyone in our community.”Additional safety measures include mobile check-ins, closing twice a day for deep cleaning, and restructuring the layout of workout equipment to promote social distancing. You don’t have to wear a mask while you’re working out at the YMCA but in between sets or if you switch to a new station, staff is asking members to cover up.To help keep the facilities as clean as possible, the YMCA is encouraging members to clean equipment before and after using it.“You are checking in via touchless system,” said Meredith Marshall, one the nearly 10 million YMCA members in America. She’s been coming to the YMCA since she was eight years old and says these new changes give her peace of mind while working out her body.“It lets me know that the YMCA has thought through what we are doing here,” Marshall said. “How we are to interact with one another.”Interacting and reconnecting with the YMCA community as they move to reopen safely and responsibly. 1725

With lawsuits, recounts and protests all looming, here is the official timeline for reporting and certification of the 2018 General Election results from the Florida Department of State:November 6 204

While millions of Americans tuned in to watch the first presidential debate between President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, data shows the event will likely not impact the final outcome of the election. The first of three presidential debates was held Tuesday night in Cleveland, Ohio.NewsChannel 5 Political Analyst Pat Nolan said the first debate always brings high stakes for the candidates and high interest from voters."This is probably the biggest opportunity for both candidates to get in front of voters and convince them they are the right person," said Nolan. While people tuned in to hear what both candidates had to say, Nolan said polls show the debate ultimately won't sway voters."I think people have decided, I like Donald Trump and I will vote for him, or I like Joe Biden, I will vote for Joe Biden and they won’t change their minds," said Nolan. The debate was held in Ohio, which is considered a swing state. Nolan said while the number of undecided voters may be smaller in the current polarizing political climate, winning those votes matters and can make a difference in swing states. While both President Trump and Biden presented their plans for the country and tried to energize supporters, Nolan said many were watching for a viral moment that could make or break either candidate."It's like any big event, when you are up on the stage and the bright lights are out there, anyone can make a mistake."There are still two more debates coming up in October. The second presidential debate will be Oct. 15 in Miami, and the final debate will be Oct. 22 at Belmont University in Nashville. This story was first reported by Emily Luxen at WTVF in Nashville, Tennessee. 1722

When you decide to live in the desert, you most likely understand some of your neighbors will be scorpions. But, a Phoenix woman says her apartment complex near is being overrun by scorpions. She asked KNXV to get involved after she said the management of the Banyantree Apartment was not helping. "That's it when it was by the wall," said LaPorsha Jones, as she showed pictures of scorpions on her phone.Jones said she has lived in the complex since April, and has found dozens of scorpions on her own. She even sought out help from pest control workers on the property. She says they told her something shocking."He caught 1,052 [scorpions] and he said, that's not even half of them," Jones said.On top of the scorpions, we noticed more problems all across Jones's apartment. There was what appeared to be black mold in the bathroom, and more in the window sill in the living room. She pointed out brown water leaking from her refrigerator, and told us she got sick from using the tap water to cook. She now uses only bottled water. Jones said she had asked management to fix all of these issues, as well as the scorpions, but nothing has been resolved. So, our reporter walked into the office and asked for the manager.A woman sitting at the front desk went to get her, but about a minute later there was a major change in tone. That same woman told our crew there would be no interview. They gave us a number to call for a comment, but after calling and leaving a voicemail, no one ever returned our calls for answers. So, we took action and went above their head to get help for this woman. We contacted the city of Phoenix who gave our team a direct number and person that Jones could talk to. 1797
