While it wasn't his shop, he says he has seen badly damaged batteries due to heat in the Las Vegas desert.He has seen a phone explode before but "It takes a lot for it to explode."The biggest issue he sees the temperatures rise into the triple digits in Las Vegas are the cracked screens from warped batteries. "Over time, the batteries heat up and bloat," Tartaglio said. "The problem is when it bloats up just a little bit, it can cause your screen to crack a lot easier."While he says it's extremely difficult to predict when a battery could explode, Tartaglio said the key is to keep phones out of direct sunlight during the summer.Not only can it lead to explosions in extreme cases, but it can also shorten the life of the battery —especially after the phone issues a temperature warning a few times.Smart phone users should also avoid overcharging devices, which can generate extra heat in the battery.Tartaglio also recommends people use replacement batteries directly from the phone's manufacturer, saying they are often more reliable than aftermarket batteries and typically aren't any more expensive. 1597

But as doors open there is a buzz in the air over the possibility of stricter gun laws.In response to the Parkland school shooting, Florida Gov. Rick Scott says no to bump stocks, no guns for the mentally ill and yes to raising the age you can buy legally buy one.You won’t find an AR-15 ban or extended background checks in Scott's plan. But in a break from the National Rifle Association, of which Scott is a member, he does not want to arm teachers.At the gun show, Scripps station WFTS in Tampa found a split in support from his own constituents.“Change needs to happen and I don’t see why not try something," said Jason Walker said, long-time gun owner and an Air Force member.When it comes to Scott's plan, Walker said he supports it overall.Eric Oyola on the other hand said he does not. He is the owner of Class 3 Outbreak, a gun manufacturer."I think the laws that we have in place right now are good enough to prevent any crime," said Oyola. “They’re just taking the rights from the law abiding citizens for people that are going to do it anyways.”Oyola is talking about the bump stock ban. As an AR-15 dealer, he especially rebuffs any plans that would target these types of guns. No worries for him under Scott’s proposal. STORY - One of the two girls who was molested by a La Jolla realtor faced the child predator at his sentencing Friday. Donald Hickey received a 25-years-to-life term as part of his plea deal in five felonies. In July, Hickey admitted to lewd and lascivious acts with a child and possession of child pornography. Prosecutors said the molestations occurred between 2009 and 2012. Hickey was caught thanks to a cyber tip submitted to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Hickey apologized to his victims in court in August, saying “I’m sorry for everything that's happened. I take responsibility for it and I hope they do heal from it.'' ``No teenager should be in a situation where they sit down and think about what they're going to say to a pedophile,'' one of the girls said after Hickey pleaded guilty. ``No parent should have to decide whether or not to tell their child that they have been assaulted.
