SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Adapting to new restrictions is now routine for businesses in the age of coronavirus. The latest set of rules handed down by Governor Newsom is not sitting well with salon owner Shanelle Cedeno.“Now it just feels like a target," Cedeno says.As hospitals become overwhelmed with surging cases, ICU capacity is the state’s newest metric for tightening restrictions.RELATED: Gov. Newsom: New California stay-at-home order triggered by ICU capacityOnce available capacity falls below 15%, only schools that have received waivers can stay open along with critical infrastructure.Retail can stay open at 20% capacity and restaurants will be restricted to take out and delivery. Bars wineries, salons, and barbershops will have to close their doors completely.Cedeno says her "Beautiful You" salon in Barrio Logan is already implementing every safety measure asked of them.RELATED: San Diego hospitals react to Newsom’s regional stay-at-home order“Everybody who comes in is one on one, how we run our business is very clean very sanitized,” said Cedeno. She says the new rules are unfair since the county’s numbers indicate salons and barbershops only make up 2.5% of community exposure settings.“A lot of these cases are just coming from people’s personal lives and not following the rules outside of where they come into businesses,” said Cedeno. The timeline is still uncertain for when salons will have to close. Until then, Cedeno says they’re moving up appointments before it’s too late.“We are making our reach-outs to have them come in today and tomorrow,” said Cedeno. “We’re San Diego, we got this. We’re all in this together.” 1655

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Airbnb reported this year how much revenue it contributes to renters and the City of San Diego during high-demand events and holiday weekends. The vacation rental website said it generated an estimated million in transient occupancy taxes for the City of San Diego between July 2015 and Aug. 2019.San Diego was a popular destination for travelers last summer, Airbnb reported. Hosts earned a combined million with some 345,400 guest arrivals between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day.RELATED: Team 10 investigates wild, violent parties at short term vacation rentalsTop events included the July period spanning Pride and Comic-Con. During that time, Airbnb reported roughly 41,000 guest arrivals and million in revenue for hosts.Rentals set a record over Labor Day weekend, with 15,000 San Diego tourists choosing to stay at Airbnb properties, the company said.“While San Diego hotels are well known to book up and sell out well in advance in spite of high nightly rates, the Airbnb home-sharing community helps the city welcome visitors for big events like these by adding additional lodging options and allowing visitors to find affordable places to stay together,” the company said in a news release.RELATED: Gunfire reported during party at La Jolla mansionAirbnb said around three-quarters of its listings are outside of central hotel districts, putting vacationers into neighborhoods with permanent residents. The presence of vacation rentals has created tension in some communities. In May, shots were fired during a party at an Airbnb rental in La Jolla. Five people were shot and killed at an Airbnb rental in the Northern California city of Orinda on Oct. 28. Airbnb announced changes to its rental policies this week, including a 24/7 neighbor hotline and verification of listings.RELATED: Airbnb rolls out new safety plan following shooting in California that left 5 dead 1920

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A team led by Scripps Research has yielded positive results in a new research study involving antibodies.Researchers say they've worked to isolate the most potent antibodies in the blood of recovered COVID-19 patients. The study was published in "Science."Dennis Burton, the study's co-author, says once they identified the most potent antibodies, they cloned them."You clone the really good ones, and then you make lots and lots of them in production facilities and then use as a standard to protect and-or treat Covid-19," Burton said. They've tested the cloned antibodies, or monoclonal antibodies, on animals, and they've yielded positive results. They hope to conduct human testing early next year. When asked if it is similar to antibody treatments from convalescent plasma donations, Burton says what they're making is more efficient and can be produced for masses. He says the monoclonal antibodies could be used as a preventive measure given to uninfected but at-risk people before a vaccine is available, and could even be useful for people that may not respond well to a vaccine. He also says the monoclonal antibodies could be used to design better vaccines by giving researchers a better idea of which antibodies are most effective. 1268
