SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thirty roosters abandoned last month are in need of a new home.The roosters were left at an Escondido feed store on Dec. 28, 2019, with a note from the owner explaining they could no longer take care of them, the San Diego Humane Society says.SDHS says the roosters all appear to be healthy and social with each other and humans.Anyone interested in adopting the roosters can do so through SDHS' Escondido campus. Officials advise potential new owners to check with their city to make sure they are allowed to have a rooster, as some city ordinances prohibit the animals.Anyone who is unable to care for their pets are also advised to take them to a SDHS campus rather than abandoning them. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Sweetwater Union High School District announced their plans for the 2020-2021 school year Thursday night to the board and community.Due to a rise in coronavirus cases and state restrictions classes will be completely virtual from Aug. 3-Oct. 2.Students will have a block schedule, which means no change for many students. They will have three classes a day with 30-45 minutes of face time with their teacher and 45-60 minutes of class spent as independent study.The district said this provides flexibility to both teachers and students.The district said there will be graded assignments and tests, but teachers voiced their opinion saying it is hard to monitor whether students are cheating. The district set three checkpoints to determine if the district will remain virtual throughout the entire school year. Those dates are September 21, November 30 and March 1. These dates allow the district to plan for the future, coordinating buses and teacher's needs.Some parents aren't comfortable with the idea of going back to campus anytime soon."I'm feeling like they need to study it more," said Dr. Marie Zhivago said. Her incoming senior and freshman students have asthma, making them more vulnerable to COVID-19. "I don't want my kids to be guinea pigs. I don't want them to be the test," Zhivago said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The trial for a former San Diego County sheriff's deputy accused of sexual misconduct while wearing his uniform began Monday in Vista.More than a dozen women claim Deputy Richard Fischer made unwanted advances."I think he's a bad guy," a San Marcos woman, who filed ,000,000 claim against the County, said.She said in August of 2017 two sheriff's deputies knocked on her door in the middle of the night for a welfare check. There was no problem and they left but she said Fischer returned alone an hour later, saying he needed to use her restroom; then told her she was cute and hugged her, several times."I was stunned shocked, it was very fast and confusing...I felt very vulnerable, intimidated, felt weak. I felt little." She said, next to tears. "It's just a mess! Everything is a mess! This is hard to do. He shouldn't have come back to my house and I don't ... Everything's a mess!"Similar instances were described by other women. In October of 2017, near the entryway of a 64-year-old woman's condo, Fischer took her report for a domestic violence incident and then made his move."His hands went all the way down to her butt and he squeezed both of her buttocks... he took her hand and pulled it down to his groin area," Lawyer Dan Gilleon said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego Medical Examiner ruled the death of a teenager who jumped off a bridge in Carmel Valley was an accident. Ruben Ortiz, 18, was one of six people in a Nissan Altima on July 9 when the car crashed on SR-56.Two passengers got out of the car and ran away, officers said. Ortiz and 17-year-old Jesse Garcia jumped 80 feet off the bridge into Gonzales Creek, not realizing it was a dangerous drop, according to investigators. Garcia and Ortiz, who suffered multiple blunt force injuries, died at the scene. California Highway Patrol officers said Garcia had been driving the night of the crash. Investigators found an open beer can in the center console. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The trolley's Mission Valley stadium site will be closed for two years due to construction on Aztec Stadium.MTS' stadium station will begin the two-year closure on Sunday, Nov. 1, as crews continue to transform the stadium land into a stadium for San Diego State University. The closure will impact the Sycuan Green Line.The station plans to reopen in 2022.The station is a vital connection between SDSU's main campus and the stadium.
