Houston city leaders, however, are speaking up.“Labor traffickers, sex traffickers, they all use hotels as part of their business model,” said Minal Patel Davis, Special Advisor on Human Trafficking to the Mayor of Houston.Davis is helping lead a new city ordinance, which requires all 524 Houston hotels and motels to train employees on how to spot and report victims of sex and labor trafficking.“We knew that we had to require it and we wanted to help increase victim identification as well and this is in line with our sort of proactive response to trafficking,” she said.Davis says Houston is the second city in the country to try this approach with the first being Baltimore.Industry leaders say though many hotels already require this kind of training, this new ordinance could help crack down on a nationwide problem.“It was about time the city worked with all of us and got something done to where education is brought to all of our members,” said Jin Laxmidas, the vice president of Houston’s Small Independent Motel Association.He believes this ordinance can open up opportunities for victims to escape an industry where there’s often no escape.“The city helps us when they make this mandatory across all hotels,” Laxmidas said. “And this is what this ordinance is about: making it mandatory for everybody.”From one-hour motels to five-star luxury hotels, experts say sex trafficking can be found everywhere.“Where people buy Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent is right here next to dozens and dozens of places where women are being sold for sex,” said Sam Hernandez of Elijah Rising, a nonprofit fighting sex trafficking.She believes this ordinance is overdue but it’s right on time for starting conversations.“I think the next battle for sex trafficking is for the greater public to listen to the stories of survivors.”Stories from the streets, some that are hard to hear, but could save someone’s life.“There ain’t nothing out here for you but death,” the self-described prostitute said of working in the sex industry. “Death and jail.” 2629

Not only do Florida investigators say Daniel Santos was ripping hundreds of people off, but they say he flaunted it on social media.“He holds stacks of cash, firearms. And he’s not scared to show you the lifestyle that he’s living using other people’s hard earned money,” said Pasco Detective Spencer Hubbell.Hubbell has a whole file cabinet dedicated to catching Santos. He’s been arrested 55 times just in Pasco County, Florida.And he’s says this latest arrest should finally stick.Investigators said Santos was running a fraud operation, using stolen debit and credit cards, and bogus checks to bring in millions of dollars.“It’s feasible he was doing between ,000 to ,000 a day at times,” Hubbell said.Detectives said Santos, a suspected members of the Bloods gang, would raid accounts until the bank realized what was happening.In most cases, those banks would take the loss and the customers didn’t actually lose any money.US Marshall’s arrested Santos in Miami where he was living in a luxury condo.“Mr. Santos has never had a job. He’s never paid taxes. But he’s living the high life on everybody else's dime,” he said.Along with the fraud, investigators said Santos has a violent criminal history including sexual battery on a victim under 16, and trying to run down a police officer during a traffic stop.They said he was always able to bond out and go back to his criminal behavior. “He’s treating it as a game. OCEANSIDE, Calif., (KGTV) -- While many of San Diego County's beaches and parks are now off-limits due to the Coronavirus, Oceanside remains open. But some residents fear that a beach and golf course soft-closures only encourage people to ignore the stay-at-home order. Unlike the taped up beaches in San Diego, Del Mar, Solana Beach, and Encinitas, Thursday evening, Oceanside decided on a soft-closure. The parking lots, Pier, picnic areas, and playgrounds are closed. But the beaches remain open. "We figured, as long as we can encourage people and enforce that social distancing, we would be able to keep those recreational opportunities available," Samuel Liston with the City of Oceanside said. One person taking advantage of Oceanside's open beach was surfer, Oliver Dillard of Bay Park. Earlier, he was at Pacific Beach but was told by a police officer to leave."I'm just in the moment. Being here now," Dillard said. But not everyone is thrilled. "My reaction to them keeping open the beaches in even a soft way is horror," Oceanside resident, Frances Pope said. Pope suffers from a rare Autoimmune Disorder. She lives in a senior community in Oceanside. She says if her local beach is the only one that is open, people will flock to it, and you can forget about social distancing. "We're going to have a swarm of people, and it's not just Oceanside that is going to be hit by that," Pope said. "They're going to go back to their homes, inland or down south, and they will infect their families."It is not only beaches. Oceanside's City-run golf courses are also one of the last ones to remain open. According to the Pro-shop, golfers must walk on the course. No golf carts will be rented unless a person has a disability placard from the DMV.Still, Pope says this "halfway measure" is not enough. She wants everyone to take the virus seriously and stay home. "Every single person that can stop one trip out helps to keep everyone else safe," Pope said. The city says in regards to the beaches, they have lifeguards on duty. And they will keep a close eye. "We are constantly reevaluating these processes. Every day, multiple times a day, and if there are problems, we will have to do more," Liston said. 2222

The store will be split into three units, with each one selling for per night, but the catch is it’s only open to residents of Deschutes County, Oregon, where the final Blockbuster Video remains.Blockbuster will provide snacks, soft drinks and pizza with the units. The units will also have access to a huge collection of Blockbuster’s stock.The units are available for up to four people, but can only be rented for one night per family.Following three nights of stays, the Oregon Blockbuster will allow visitors to see the units during regular business hours for a limited time.The Bend, Oregon, Blockbuster became the final location open of the mega video rental chain in 2018 after a pair of Alaska locations closed. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- Hundreds showed up early Saturday morning for the Oceanside half-Ironman. The race is a total of 70.3 miles of biking, swimming and running. For one local Camp Pendleton marine, the race meant so much more. Captain John Watkins participated in the Ironman in memory of his daughter, Amelia Mae Watkins, also known as Millie. Millie passed away when she was just 10-years-old from neuroblastoma last year. Since Millie's death, her family raises money to raise awareness about her specific type of cancer. The Watkins raised over ,000 dollars for this race.
