SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police Homicide investigators and Crime Stoppers asked for the public’s help Thursday to solve the mystery of an unidentified boy whose skeletal remains were found on a Rancho Bernardo hiking trail in 2004.Two hikers found the 2 to 4-year-old boy, called “Baby Doe” by police. Forensic testing showed the boy was born between 1999 and 2001, and had features “consistent with being mostly Caucasian”, according to investigators. The boy also had light to medium brown hair.Police said isotopic testing indicates the boy was born on the mainland United States. His mother likely lived in the southeastern part of the country for part of her pregnancy and the first year of the boy’s life before they moved west, investigators said.Anyone with information is asked to call Lt. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego leaders say they are working to help prepare the county's homeless population to protect themselves from the coronavirus.An outreach team has been busy installing hand washing stations across San Diego to address the virus concerns as it affects those experiencing homelessness. Team members have been helping individuals protect themselves against the virus by passing out hygiene kits that include hand sanitizer, info on symptoms, water, soap, tissues, and hand wipes.Nurses have also started to visit San Diego shelters to help prepare those staying there, especially those suffering from underlying medical conditions or who are older. Leaders say nurses are prepared to be on site to assist with screening potential patients and identify potential housing options if they need to be moved for care. Potential options include motels, government buidlings or facilities, or tents, according to leaders.According to the county, medical professionals are on high alert for any possible local outbreak. Currently, one person has been confirmed to have coronavirus. That patient is said to be doing well. Leaders added that there is no evidence of "community-based transmission" in San Diego.Those who are testing in San Diego County must do so through a primary doctor. The county says if someone doesn't have a doctor, they can call the county's coronavirus hot line at 2-1-1. 1415
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Restaurants up and down 5th Avenue in the Gaslamp District are gearing up for yet another three days of crowded on-street dining.This upcoming weekend will see 24 eateries offering service on the asphalt, up from the original eight that participating during the launch on June 18. But as they bask in the opportunity, restaurants on surrounding streets are asking - what about them?"It's a ghost town, especially at night," said Patrizia Bronchi, who owns Operacaffe on Fourth Avenue. "I'm really scared to have to close the restaurant because it's not possible to go on like this."Bronchi says revenue at Operacaffe is down more than 70 percent. She depends on crowds from the Balboa Theater across the street and visitors to hotels and conventions. All of that is nonexistent amid the Coronavirus outbreak.Bronchi says she is happy that 5th Avenue restaurants are seeing the increased business, but that the crowds are not spilling over onto 4th Avenue. Michael Trimble, who heads the Gaslamp Quarter Association, says the group cannot also close 4th and 6th Avenues due to traffic concerns.However, he said the association wants to help with new marketing, decorative lighting and parklets - such as replacing some parking spaces with permanent outdoor dining areas. "We really are trying to do what we can to support all of the merchants in the Gaslamp Quarter," he said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County is nearing a move into the state's most restrictive tier of COVID-19 regulations.California launched a tier system in late August to measure COVID-19 risk within a county. San Diego County is now moving into the so-called purple tier, or widespread tier. Moving into that level would trigger stricter regulations, including the indoor closure of several businesses like restaurants and gyms.Some restaurant owners say if San Diego County moves into that tier and they are ordered to close their indoor dining areas, they will not follow the orders."We really want to push against it. There's no other way of making it nowadays," said Nick Kacha, the manager of Rudford's Restaurant in North Park.On Thursday, they put up a sign outside the restaurant that says, "Stand Up Small Business. #Defy""We're hoping other businesses will stand up with us and join the wave," Kacha said. He says nearly a dozen other businesses have said they will also stay open.Restaurant owner, Todd Brown, says he's still deciding what to do. He owns several restaurants, but the one is focused on is Bub's at the Beach in Pacific Beach. Brown says he is worried if they have to close again, they might close for good.Both businesses have followed the public health orders since the pandemic started. But for Brown, he says this time he is thinking it through."If we decide to stay open, it's not because we're trying to make a political statement. It's because we're trying to survive," he said. "You have the option of defying an order and staying open. How does that work? I have no idea, and it's not something I'm really interested in doing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher and other local health and community leaders urged San Diegans to put their focus on the fight against the coronavirus instead of the restrictions placed on businesses due to the pandemic.During a Monday morning press conference, Fletcher specifically called out fellow Supervisors Jim Desmond and Kristin Gaspar, who have been pushing for reopenings.“In particular Supervisors Jim Desmond and Kristen Gaspar are inciting a fight between government and small business. They’re exploiting the pain and suffering that small businesses are going through as a result of a global pandemic as a wedge for political gain. It is reckless and irresponsible leadership,” Fletcher said.Fletcher’s comments come as San Diego County inches towards the possibility of moving from the red tier into California’s most restrictive purple tier.In response to Fletcher’s remarks, Gaspar issued this statement:“This morning Supervisor Fletcher held a hellfire and brimstone press conference in which he ironically and incorrectly blamed me for playing politics with COVID. Let me set the record straight: I have never supported any approach to re-opening that was not specifically supported by our Public Health Officer and clinical leadership team. Supervisor Fletcher knows this but prefers to continue spreading this false narrative because he is actively running a campaign against me. I measured the distance between our office doors, and it is 7 feet, so he and I can actually have a socially distanced conversation anytime he isn’t holding a press conference.
