(KGTV) — San Diego's Board of Supervisors voted to enter into an agreement with Tri-City Healthcare District to build a new psychiatric health facility in Oceanside.The county will contribute .4 million to build a 16-bed facility on a piece of vacant land at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside. Tri-City will operate the facility, but the county will lease the property, build the facility, and sublease the building to Tri-City.Tri-City Healthcare District closed its Behavioral Health Unit in 2018 over changes in federal regulations. Regulations required the hospital to remove all "ligature" risks from rooms, or features of rooms that patients could use to hand themselves. The hospital's "drop" ceilings also did not meet regulations. Replacing the ceilings alone would cost million.The hospital's behavioral health unit provides adult inpatient psychiatric services. The departure of those services have made filling emergency behavioral needs in North County increasingly challenging. Patients had to instead be taken to Palomar Hospital in Escondido or San Diego County Mental Health off of Rosecrans Street.Not only did it make emergency situations a longer drive for patients, but officers would be removed from their jurisdictions for 5 to 6 hours.“Getting Tri-City Health into the behavioral health business has been a top priority,” said Supervisor Jim Desmond, whose district includes the hospital. “The biggest winners are the residents of San Diego County, residents and families who count on and rely on the needed behavioral health services.”The facility could take up to three years to open. 1645

Oceanside’s Flying Pig restaurant had a wait for tables last Friday.On the surface, that sounds like a dream scenario.But owner Roddy Browning says sales just didn't match the demand.“Our capacity is just cut so much, there's just no room for that heavyweight labor when you don't have the capacity,” he said.It's because of social distancing restrictions.Browning recently reopened The Flying Pig and his Vista restaurant - Town Hall Public House - with seating cut in about half.He's working his way back after having to layoff much of his staff when Coronavirus restrictions first took effect. (KGTV) — Oceanside's shoreline was closed Tuesday after the sighting of a 9-foot long hammerhead shark. Oceanside Lifeguards temporarily closed the city's beaches from Wisconsin Ave. to Harbor Beach around 11:30 a.m. Police officers were dispatched on a boat offshore to keep an eye out for the shark, according to the city. The shark was last seen swimming about 100 yards offshore, south of the Oceanside Pier. The shoreline was reopened at 2:30 p.m. after a final search of the area came up empty.RELATED: 564

Online shoe retailer Zappos will allow customers to buy just one shoe, or a pair of shoes in different sizes.The change, being tested this week on their website, is aimed at amputees, those with different-sized feet, and others who may have felt excluded by the shoe industry.It’s part of Zappos Adaptive, an initiative started in 2017 to “connect people with products that makes getting dressed easier for everyone” according to the company.
