Dreher Township, PA (WNEP) -- Parents are expressing concern after a church announced it will hold a ceremony next week, and worshipers are encouraged to bring assault rifles with them, and the ceremony will be just down the road from an elementary school.The ceremony in Wayne County was planned before the mass shooting at a high school in Florida last week.Church leaders still plan to go ahead with the blessing of guns, which has some parents of elementary school students on edge.Sanctuary Church and Rod of Iron Ministries are one in the same, run by the Moon family from South Korea who started the controversial Unification Church.Church leaders said that state police wanted to know what the ceremony next week involving AR-15-style assault rifles is all about.At 10 a.m. next Wednesday, church leaders expect up to 600 people for a blessing ceremony, and many of those people are expected to be armed with AR-15s, the assault rifle used in recent mass shootings across the country."This will be a big thing for us. It's a new stage for us because it incorporates the rod of iron, as it is in Revelations. Revelations talks about the returning Christ ruling with the rod of iron."Tim Elder sat down with WNEP to explain the beliefs of the church, led by the Reverend Sean Moon.Moon is the son of the late Sun Myung Moon, who founded the controversial Unification Church that drew national attention in the 1970s and '80s. The Rod of Iron Ministries is an offshoot of that religious organization focusing on what it believes is the right of families to defend themselves with assault rifles."This rod of iron is the AR-15, in today's terms."The Moon family also owns Kahr Arms, a gunmaker that moved to Pike County a couple years ago. WNEP was at the opening ceremony at that time in Blooming Grove Township.Church leaders say the AR-15s will not be loaded for the ceremony next week and safety zip ties will be used. However, state police are involved. Elder says troopers have reached out for more information.Just down the road from the church is Wallenpaupack South Elementary School with 280 students, plus teachers and staff. In light of recent gun violence at schools, the planned ceremony with assault rifles is concerning for parents."It's something I would consider keeping my child home. It's scary," said Liz Zoccola."I wish they wouldn't have it at all. I don't think there's a good time to have it, especially this close," Kendra Hanor said.The ceremony was planned before last week's deadly rampage at a high school in Florida.Wallenpaupack Area school officials are deciding what, if anything, the school will do next Wednesday in response to the ceremony down the road.  2719

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, called for the U.S. to "double down" on what he called "common-sense" public health measures on Monday as the country faces a critical juncture amid the COVID-19 pandemic.After enormous surges in cases in the spring and summer, the U.S. was able to flatten the curve a bit in early September. According to Johns Hopkins, the U.S. dropped to a low point of about 34,000 new daily cases of COVID-19, down from a high of about 70,000 new cases in July.However, case rates have increased gradually in recent weeks, and Fauci warned that Americans need to take public health measures seriously as cold weather forces many indoors, adding that the country is "not in a good place" ahead of winter."(Some states) are starting to show upticks in cases and even some increase in hospitalizations in some states," Fauci said Monday during an appearance on ABC's Good Morning America. "You don't want to be in a position like that as the weather starts getting cold."Fauci added that despite the increase in cases, he did not believe the U.S. needed to go into another total lockdown similar to the one that took place in March and April."I would really like to not go there because it causes so many collateral issues and problems," Fauci said. "...obviously, if things really explode, you'd have to consider that. But we want to do everything we possibly can to avoid an absolute shutdown. In other words, get the cases under control by the common-sense types of things that we've been talking about all along, those public health measures."However, Fauci said he was "concerned" by Florida's decision to reopen bars and restaurants. On Friday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis moved the state into "Phase 3" of its reopening plan, meaning that restaurants, bars and hotels can operate at full capacity. Local governments are also unable to restrict a business' operating capacity unless granted permission by the state.Fauci said he was specifically troubled by the state's reopening of bars."That is very concerning to me," Fauci said. "We have always said that — myself and Dr. Deborah Birx, who is the coordinator of the task force — that that is something that we really need to be careful about, because when you're dealing with community spread, and you have the type of congregate setting where people get together, particularly without masks, you're really asking for trouble."In the past, Fauci has advocated for five common-sense public health measures that all Americans should take amid the pandemic: Wearing masks, avoiding crowds, keeping six feet apart from others, constant hand washing and opting for outdoor activities over indoor activities. "But now we’re in a time when women make up half of the workforce, and by Dr. Biden really emulating and showing that a woman’s place is in the family, and the woman’s place can be in the workforce – and she can choose both – is really allowing women to see themselves and how they’re operating in their families today.”Traditionally, when the position of first lady developed, her role was described as the pinnacle of advanced home making. Much of her attention was put toward fashion and entertaining guests. For the past few decades, Jellison says there’s been less focus on appearance, and more focus on substance like the professional strides she takes and her influence on politics.“Someone like an Eleanor Roosevelt, a Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama have been real players in terms of advising their husbands on policies and also being major players in their own right," Jellison said. (KGTV)— Family and friends of 19-year-old Kiera Bergman gathered at the Ronald Reagan Community Center to celebrate her life. A month-long search ended in a body discovery in the Arizona desert. Her ex-boyfriend, 23-year-old John Clark is accused of killing her. Kiera Bergman was the eldest daughter of the Bergman-Bragg family. Her mother Kiersten Bragg remembered Kiera had a strong personality, even before she was born.“I never forget I would always crave SpaghettiOs and that was one of her favorite things to eat,” Bragg said. She said as a teen Kiera would crave the canned spaghetti. Her family told 10News, Kiera was a spunky, playful, chunky toddler. "I always compared her to the Michelin man because she had tons of rolls everywhere,” her mother laughed. Then she became a big sister to Braydee. Kiera was silly, artistic, a talented singer, with a big heart. In his speech at the ceremony, her grandfather shared the time she spent her first ever paycheck from her part-time job on the homeless.“She bought the lady lunch. And I don't know many teenagers who will take their first paycheck and do that. So that kind of shows you what kind of girl she was,” Jim Bergman said, in tears. They said Kiera hoped to one day combine her giving personality with her dream job - America's best hairstylist.“Her dream was to at least once or twice a month, go to the homeless and do their hair and make them feel better about themselves,” Bragg said. But she was not able to live out her dream. Her boyfriend at the time, John Clark, convinced her to drop out of Cosmetology school. The two them moved to Arizona in March. Her boyfriend is accused of killing and leaving Bergman in the Arizona desert."That's what breaks my heart.
