SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A local woman is suing the Greyhound bus company after an unscheduled stop allowed border agents to come on the bus and question the citizenship of passengers. Rocio Cordova was traveling from San Diego to Phoenix in November 2017 when her bus was stopped.Her lawyer, Darren Robbins, tells 10News, “Well this practice was brought to our attention and our client was one of the people subjected to these warrantless searches conducted without probable cause.”RELATED: 'Minutemen' wants troops at border gaps near CampoHe continued to say these immigration raids have been happening on multiple different Greyhound buses. Cordova is accusing Greyhound of violating state consumer protection laws by allegedly consenting to racial profiling by law enforcement officers. Cordova is a United States citizen, however, watched people on the bus around her questioned based on their race, according to her lawyer, “it is highly invasive and inappropriate to facilitate such action of law enforcement officials against its own passengers”. The complaint was served to Greyhound on Friday.Robbins is now waiting for their response, “the best response would be they'll refrain from any additional illegal behavior and stop allowing this kind of warrantless searches to take place on greyhound facilities or Greyhound buses,” he tells 10News.  1388

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A mountain lion that scratched a young boy at the Blue Sky Ecological Reserve in Poway last week was captured and killed, state Fish and Wildlife officials told the San Diego Union-Tribune.On June 12, park officials said a 4-year-old boy suffered scratches to his back and thigh after an encounter with the animal on the park grounds.The boy, who was on a hike with his family at the time of the incident, is expected to make a full recovery.RELATED: 4-year-old attacked by mountain lion according to Fish and WildlifeThe park was temporarily closed after the attack.The U-T, citing a Fish and Wildlife official, reported that the mountain lion in the incident was found and killed several hours after the boy was attacked.The official told the newspaper that DNA tests confirmed the animal -- a 2-year-old female weighing 70 pounds -- was the one responsible for scratching the boy. 911

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local musician is facing a painful COVID-19 toll, losing three family members and five friends to the virus.David Whitman's first loss to COVID-19 came in late April with the passing of Jeanne Fisher, his great-aunt."Went downhill fairly quickly and passed away at a nursing home in the Chicago area," said Whitman.In early June, his grandmother Beverly Whitman, 92, became sick at a nursing home in Wisconsin. She died June 13."I know the morphine they gave her. She really needed it. It was not an easy way to go," said Whitman.A few days before she passed, she was able to share a room with her husband of 69 years, Robert Whitman, 93, also diagnosed with coronavirus. He died three days after her death."His condition deteriorated pretty quickly I think after my grandmother passed away," said Whitman.Whitman's emotions are still raw."It's really tough not to be with family, not being able to get together to mourn," said Whitman.Whitman, a professional musician, is also grieving the death of five friends from the world of music. A few days ago, he released a recording of his award-winning song "I Have A Friend," which was inspired by his grandmother. It's a recording that helped him grieve."There is a healing aspect to sharing your humanity. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Rancho Penasquitos man says on Sunday morning he walked outside to discover someone had broken into most of the mailboxes on his street. He added that even mailboxes that had locks had been pried open and left empty.“I woke up this morning to pick up my newspaper and I noticed every mailbox up and down the street and adjacent streets I could see had been opened and all the mail had been removed,” he said. The neighbor asked ABC 10News not to be identified.He said he’s lived in the area for about 10 years and it’s generally quiet. They had one incident a few years ago where mail was stolen around tax return season. He’s concerned about this theft because of the looming November election.“I kinda felt it might’ve had something to do with stealing the ballots,” he said.He said both he and his next door neighbor had received their ballots in the days immediately before the theft. Other neighbors in the area also said they already got their ballots in the mail, but the incident is a reminder to be extra cautious with important voting documents moving through the postal system.“Personally, I’ve never been a victim of crime here, or do I know anybody that’s been a victim of crime here, so it’s something that’s concerning,” he said.The neighbor added that he did email the registrar’s office to let them know of the possibility of stolen ballots in his neighborhood. 1407
