SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Aaron Juarez sat stone-faced as a public defender tried to convince a South Bay judge he's not a flight risk; especially not to Mexico. The deputy district attorney says Juarez, 20, is a gang member recently sentenced to probation on a firearms conviction. The judge ordered him held without bail for violating his probation, but he's wanted in Tijuana for allegedly murdering his stepmom. He declined to talk with the media Monday afternoon. "It really hurts that they can support someone like that. Even my sister's husband was here supporting the murder of my sister and that really hurts me," said Gonzalez. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A shopping trip in City Heights ended with a flurry of anti-gay slurs and a road rage assault.On Tuesday afternoon, Marco Aguirre spent an hour shopping, before heading back to his truck, parked in the 3700 block on University Avenue."I back out and lightly bump the car behind me," said Aguirre, 49.Aguirre says he saw two men emerge from an older-model, red sedan. Aguirre apologized, offering to show his insurance, but the men were agitated."The driver came on my side and the passenger came on the other side. Both of them were screaming," said Aguirre.With his cellphone, Aguirre, who is openly gay, capturing the profanities, including a string of anti-gay slurs. Aguirre was frozen. "I feel terrible. Panicked," said Aguirre.He says the slurs continued for about 15 minutes, before he decided to get out of the car to assess the damage."I see no damage to my truck and no damage to their vehicle," said Aguirre. Aguirre says when he stepped onto the sidewalk, he was attacked."One of the guys grabbed my phone and smashed it into the sidewalk. The same guy punched me in the face, under my left eye," said Aguirre. Aguirre says the two men got in the car and took off, leaving him with swelling under his left eye. The incident also left him determined to find the two men."It's not right. I need to take a stand. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A woman was taken to the hospital after the car she was riding in -- which was believed to have been stolen -- struck a building and two parked vehicles in the El Cerrito area on Friday morning.San Diego police said the collision happened at around 5:15 a.m. in the 5800 block of El Cajon Boulevard.Witnesses told ABC 10News they saw a silver Honda Accord traveling at a high rate of speed, possibly reaching 100 MPH, when it lost control and collided with a building and parked cars, littering the area with debris and car parts.Responding emergency crews pulled a female from the wreckage and took her to the hospital. Police said the woman suffered a broken hip and deep laceration on the back of her leg.One witness said a man, believed to be the driver, was able to get out of the wrecked car and ran away from the scene. He was described as Black, in his 20s, wearing a black sweater and black pants.According to police, as officers and emergency crews responded to the crash, a man called 911 to report his car that was left running outside of a business on El Cajon Boulevard was stolen.Police told ABC 10News they believe the car in the crash was the same vehicle stolen a few blocks away. 1226

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A second person has died and three children remain hospitalized after a fire tore through a Logan Heights home Sunday morning. The family’s oldest son told 10News his mother and father, who he identified as Nicolasa Mayo and Jose Romero, were killed in the fire. His two younger sisters and brother remain in the hospital following the blaze. The 26-year-old says he awoke Sunday morning to find his bed on fire. The man tells 10News he tried yelling at his family to get out of the home. "My dogs were jumping on me, trying to wake me up. I woke up. When I woke up, my bed was on fire. I jumped out of bed and started screaming the house is on fire," said Wilber Romero.The fire started around 4:30 Sunday morning on the 3100 block of Clay Street. "The minute I stepped out of my restroom, my house on the inside felt warm, like really warm. The curtain was open and I looked across the neighbors house was just bursting in flames," said Maria Orona, who lives nearby. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, firefighters had to go inside the home to pull many of the victims out. One witness who was nearby when the fire started told 10News he could see one of the victims reaching through bars in the windows, unable to escape.At least three fire engines and dozens of firefighters responded to the blaze.At this time, it’s unclear what sparked the fire, but the metro arson strike team was called to the home to investigate.A GoFundMe has been set up for the family to help cover funeral expenses. 1541

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A school district superintendent and a Native American reservation leader in North County are speaking out against the proposed placement of a sexually violent predator. On Thursday, there were strong reactions from those who are close to North County's Pauma Valley home where sexually violent predator Joshua Cooley could soon be placed. “When people like this are placed by our borders, it's very concerning,” Temet Aguilar, the Chairman of the Pauma Band of Mission Indians, said Thursday. Aguilar is encouraging the hundreds of families on and near the reservation to speak out against the placement of 40-year-old Cooley, whose victims were 12-years-old.“They think this is an area that's rural and there's nobody out here but actually it's more dangerous. Predators can hide out here. We have a tremendous amount of agriculture. We have rural lands,” he added.Valley Center-Pauma Unified School District Superintendent Ron McCowan told ABC10 News they'll write letters if they have to to make sure they're voices on the matter is heard. “We'll write the letters if we have to. We'll show up at the court hearing if we have to," McCowan said. “We'll make every effort we can. We'll work alongside our local officials and make sure that our voice for our community is heard and make sure they understand the risk that they're putting our young children in.”This Tuesday, DA Summer Stephan sent a letter to the Department of State Hospitals, urging the Department to find a different place for Cooley, who's from Northern California, not San Diego. He has no local connections.It's unclear why the Department is seeking his housing in San Diego.Next month, a Humboldt County judge will consider a request from the Department to place him in Pauma.If granted, it would mark the first time that such a predator from outside San Diego would be placed in our county.DA Stephan has called the move reckless and irresponsible. She said that in July, a San Diego judge struck down a request to place 75-year-old sexually violent predator Joseph Bocklett in the same Pauma home.According to an ABC station in Northern California, Cooley’s been denied placement in at least four different areas in and near Humboldt.The Department of State Hospitals will not confirm any information about Cooley, citing privacy concerns. A Humboldt County court official called ABC10 News on Thursday to say the Court would not comment.On Oct. 9, at 8:30 a.m., a hearing on Cooley's placement will be available for viewing at https://www.humboldt.courts.ca.gov/.Those interested in submitting a public comment for the hearing can do so between Sept. 15-23.
