Now, she tees off with a scholarship to Pepperdine University in her back pocket. "I know a lot of kids come out here to practice. There's not a lot of golf courses around here, so it's really important to Point Loma," Gomez said.More than a century of history sits in the club's soil. At one time, a young Phil Mickelson played tournament at what was then called Sail Ho.Which is why players and locals were shocked to learn the Loma Club put out a notice that it will close in late December.Point Loma residents flooded social media following the news, worried that the same thing could happen in other nearby communities: Golf courses shutting down with plans to fill the land with housing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The former head of the Poway Unified School District appeared in court Monday for a preliminary hearing on five felony charges.Officials charged John Collins with misappropriating and misuse of public money.The complaint accuses Collins of misappropriation of public money dealing with vacation time and sick leave. Poway Unified fired Collins in 2017 after a scathing audit had alleged he received more than 0,000 in overpayments and unauthorized payments.The audit also claims there were an additional ,000 in other transactions that violated district policy and some questionable purchases for airline tickets, dinners and hotel fees.Collins attorney did not respond to 10News request for a comment, but in the past, Collins denied engaging in conduct that was dishonest.If convicted on all charges, Collins could face more than seven years behind bars. 894

To help, groups have stepped up to accept donations to give to the people who have been displaced. The Navy Life Naval Base San Diego Facebook page posted a warning to watch out for fake GoFundMe or charity request pages, and said the government is not allowed to accept donated funds to fix or replace the ship.Related: Crews battle USS Bonhomme Richard fire for fourth dayThe post highlighted three official groups to donate to who are safe and reliable: Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, which is accepting online payments and mailed in checks to be donated to sailors,Support the Enlisted Project, which is accepting all types of donations, andUSO San Diego, which is also accepting all types of donations.Gillian Gonzalez, with the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, said more than 80 sailors lost all of their belongings in the fire. She advises that people who make donations to their group specify that their donation should go to the USS Bonhomme Richard sailors directly.The USO office is taking every type of donation, from hygienic items to clothes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Surveillance video captured a group of thieves in action, targeting mail in Paradise Hills.After 11 p.m. Sunday on Grove View Road, the videos show a woman stroll by, a man and another woman following close behind.The group splits up. The two women are seen on one side of the road, glancing around.On the other side is the backpack-toting man, who appears to peer inside a mailbox.Soon after, a car pulls into Amanda Sewell's house.The women walk by and watch Sewell's aunt walk into the home, before possibly signaling the man.The man then walks up to Sewell's mailbox, grabs a bundle of mail and walks away. 642
