SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego hairstylist is suing Governor Gavin Newsom over closures of indoor salons. It comes even after a revised order that allows them to operate outside.Amy Mullins-Boychack doesn’t take just any client.“They might have to pace for 15 minutes before they can regulate their anxiety to get a hair cut,” she said.She’s been cutting hair for children with special needs at her salon “THAIRapy” for eight years. Under restrictions from the state, salons are only allowed to operate outdoors.She says that’s not an option with her clients.“I have clients that don’t have impulse control,” said Mullins-Boychack. “They don’t have the ability to just sit anywhere and get a hair cut.”So she joined a lawsuit filed against the governor in March. The plaintiff, JD Bols, is a landlord to several churches and beauty salons in San Diego.The lawsuit also names Mayor Kevin Faulconer, Sheriff Bill Gore, and the County Board of Supervisors as defendants. It claims the pandemic-related restrictions violate civil rights and have financially crippled businesses deemed non-essential.“This isn’t about vanity," says Mullins-Boychack. “This is a life skill for them, this is routine, this is repetition, this is part of their livelihood, part of their social skills.”In addition to the lawsuit, she’s working to get an exemption from the governor to continue her business indoors. 1398

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was hospitalized Saturday night after being stabbed several times during a confrontation in Mission Beach, police said.The incident happened around 8 p.m. in the 900 block of West Mission Bay, said Ofc. Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.Heims said a 26-year-old man approached and exchanged words with a 50-year-old man. The younger man then pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times."The victim fell to the ground and the suspect fled the scene," Heims said. "The victim was transported to the hospital where his injuries were determined (to be) non-life threatening."The suspect was caught a short time later and arrested. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego Congressman is responding to a Team 10 investigation that uncovered claims the government is not providing sufficient medical care to people in its custody.Court documents uncovered by Team 10 claim a man was arrested at the border then held for nearly three days in a potentially dangerous medical state.According to court documents, "Mr. Centeno was kept in a small cell where the lights were on the entire time. Mr. Centeno was not given a change of clothes during the nearly three days while he was at the Port of Entry. The cell where Mr. Centeno was held did not have a bed, and Mr. Centeno was given a thin foil blanket and a torn yoga mat to lie on. Part of the supplemental funding I voted to support this summer included crucial funding for medical care for migrants. In the coming weeks, my staff will meet with the head of CBP's San Diego Field Office to demand a stop to this behavior. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego dentist is giving parents a new tool to win the battle over brushing.Dr. Kami Hoss recently released a singing toothbrush that pairs with augmented reality technology."We gotta come up with brushes that are really fun and educate in a fun way," says Dr. Hoss.The brush plays a song for two minutes, which is the amount of time dentists recommend for brushing teeth. While the song plays, kids can use an app to watch augmented reality characters come to life on their phones.The characters "pop out" of a sticker placed on the bathroom mirror and teach kids how to brush properly. Hoss says this is the first toothbrush to use AR."It's Pixar quality," says Dr. Hoss of the animation.
