(KGTV) - Not many people have a Coronado bridge story like Bertha Loaiza.Loaiza was 3-years-old in August of 1985 when her mother jumped from the 246-foot tall bridge holding her.The mother and daughter were unconscious when fisherman pulled them out of the harbor. 24-year-old Angelica Medina never took another breath, but responders were able to resuscitate Bertha.“Honestly it’s hard for even me to believe,” said Loaiza, who suffered a broken hip and cataracts in her right eye from the incident, “My memories blocked out — but I’m good now.’Growing up, her family told her that her mother died in a car accident, but she figured out the real story as a teenager after watching an old news clip.“It makes me sad she didn’t have the resources that are available to everybody today,” said Loaiza.Now 36, Loaiza says she was angry at her mom when she first found out. (KGTV) - The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit Friday against the Trump Administration for "forcibly separating asylum-seeking parents and young children."“Whether or not the Trump administration wants to call this a ‘policy,’ it certainly is engaged in a widespread practice of tearing children away from their parents" Lee Gelernt, deputy director of the ACLU’s Immigrants’ Rights Project, said. (KGTV) — The coronavirus pandemic has forced a traditional holiday treat to be put on hiatus.Just Born Quality Confections says it won't be making their popular Peeps marshmallow treats this Halloween, Christmas, or Valentine's Day. Instead, the company says it will focus on preparing Peeps for next Easter, according to Pennlive.com.Just Born suspended production of the candies last spring as the coronavirus pandemic began, before resuming limited production in May with safety protocols in place for employees.“This situation resulted in us having to make the difficult decision to forego production of our seasonal candies for Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day in order to focus on meeting the expected overwhelming demand for Peeps for next Easter season, as well as our everyday candies,” the company told Pennlive.The company's other holiday treats — including Mike and Ike, and Hot Tamales — will also be missing this year, but it expects its seasonal candies to return to shelves by Halloween 2021.The Associated Press contributed to this report. 1072
