County officials said Friday that the average number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has increased by 19 percent in three days. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Documents show the man accused of pummeling a teenage Syrian refugee on a trolley car has a history of run-ins with authorities.On Oct. 15, Adrian Vergara was accused of the crime after approaching the teen and asking him if he's Mexican."He responded, no I am Arab. He does not speak a lot of English, and with that response the person began to pummel him in the face," Geneviéve Jones-Wright, Legal Director, Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans, said.Tuesday, San Diego Police said they had arrested Vergara on suspicion of assault with force and violation of civil rights.RELATED: Man accused of attacking Syrian refugee aboard trolley car arrested10News dug into Vergara's background and found a history of violent incidents. In 2012, court documents say Vergara threatened a man with a billy club. He did community service in the South Metro Career Center. A letter says he worked well there with special needs students as well as general students. And in 2016, he was charged with grand theft and burglary for breaking into the Central Library.Later that year, documents say Vergara violated a restraining order against his ex-girlfriend, kicking her front door, texting her and in a phone call, cursing at her and saying, "if you don't talk to me I'm going to go to your job and cause a scene. I don't care about my life." Documents show he called her 20 times in 30 minutes.Court documents also show a carjacking charge at the beginning of 2017.In October 2017, Vergara was charged for beating up a man and given a stay away order from the MTS Imperial Transit Center.The most recent document shows he violated a court order, put in place to prevent domestic violence in January 2019. 1996

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Dozens of families and children with down syndrome were out at Crown Point Park in Pacific Beach for the first-ever Donut Run in San Diego. The money raised benefits Gigi's Playhouse which is a down syndrome achievement center. The center provides therapeutic and training programs for people of all ages. The services are completely free. Gigi's Playhouse has 37 locations across the country and even a few in Mexico. All of the staff are volunteers so donations are always welcome in order to continue providing the services. The goal was to raise ,000 but the organization doubled that goal.   667

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- From elementary school students to parents, many in the Scripps Ranch community are coming together to help during the coronavirus crisis.Like many throughout the county, Ryan Williams is now working from home. His wife does not have that luxury. “My wife has been a nurse for about 12 years now,” Williams said. He is helping to make face masks to send to health care workers. “It is personal,” Williams said. “I would want to make sure my wife is protected when she was trying to help save others’ lives. I believe most people in the world would feel the same way as our health care workers.Williams, who works for Craft Bot, makes the headbands for the masks. Others help put it together. Others have one because they're a consumer that owns a 3D printer and they can print three or four a day. There's several people out there chipping in little by little,” Williams said.Ten-year-old Asher Botts is one of those people helping. He is also using his 3D printer to make headbands. He’s made five so far, with each one taking several hours to print.
