SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The ridesharing company, Lyft, is donating hundreds of thousands of dollars in ride credits to immigration groups throughout the country, including one in San Diego County. The company made the donation announcement on Monday, donating 0,000, calling the campaign "America is an Idea, Not a Geography." The Minority Humanitarian Foundation in Spring Valley received roughly ,000 in ride credits. The foundation's founder, Mark Lane, says the company's donation is a game changer for his organization. Lane explains that the money previously spent on rides can now go towards other things like food, clothing and other supplies. 10News spoke to multiple Lyft drivers in San Diego who said they wouldn't mind providing rides to migrants, as long as their pay didn't change. A few Lyft users told 10News they don't agree with Lyft's donation but said they would still continue to use the service.During the month of July, Lyft is also matching donations to RAICES up to ,000. Sheriff Bill Gore said in a statement that " I am stopping the use of the carotid restraint by my deputies effective immediately.""I have and always will listen to any feedback about the public safety services we provide. San Diego Police Chief Nisleit said during a news conference that he would direct officers in a memo Tuesday to end the use of the carotid restraint procedure following a weekend of nationwide protests against police violence.“It’s the right thing to do for the community and it’s the right thing to do for our officers," Chief Nisleit said. “Some will say it’s taking away a tool, I say it’s adding a layer of protection."The announcement comes as thousands of people throughout San Diego County took to the street to protest the death of George Floyd. Your two favorite tiger cubs are ready for visitors at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Friday the zoo released video of the cubs enjoying their new home. The approximately 3-month-old, rescued Bengal tiger cub and his 4-month-old companion, a Sumatran tiger cub are settling in nicely at the Tull Family Tiger Trail. “The two cubs are adjusting really well to their new home,” said Lori Hieber, senior mammal keeper at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. “They’re doing great. They act like little brothers; they play and cuddle a lot, and they squabble a bit like most brothers, but it’s all natural, healthy behavior.”The Bengal tiger cub was brought to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park on  August 23, 2017, after being confiscated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers during a vehicle inspection at the U.S./Mexico port of entry near San Diego. RELATED: Customs and Border Protection agents seize tiger cub at US-Mexico borderHe remains under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
