‘Tis the season to deck the halls! But will you go with a real or fake tree this Christmas? It’s an age-old debate that surfaces every holiday season. When we spoke to tree buyers, there were strong opinions on both sides. You can’t beat the smell of a real tree, but there are several reasons many opt to purchase a fake one.If you don’t continue to water your real tree, it will dry out, making it a fire hazard.A recent study done by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach found that thousands of insects and spiders could be hiding out in your Christmas tree.If you’re worried cutting down a real tree is bad for the environment, that myth is false. Research by Michigan University says to think of the trees like lettuce or corn; they are crops grown on a farm and are grown to be cut down. But as for the artificial Christmas tree, they are extremely cost effective. You can use them year after year. And if you’re worried that artificial trees are toxic because many of them are made from PVC plastic, well, the Consumer Product Safety Commission says there’s nothing to worry about. However, some tree buyers say the little lead found in the tree is still enough for them to stick with a real tree.Ultimately, the choice is left with families to decide what gets them in the holiday spirit. 1313

(KGTV) – The Drug Enforcement Administration in Los Angeles County announced a record-breaking seizure of narcotics on Wednesday. The DEA’s Los Angeles Division stated agents seized about 893 pounds of cocaine, 13 pounds of heroin, and 2,224 pounds of methamphetamine. The meth seizure is the largest domestic methamphetamine seizure in DEA history, officials said.DEA Acting Administrator Timothy Shea said, "This is enough dope to prove a dose of meth for every man, women and child in the United States and Mexico. Study after study shows that where there is meth addiction, there is also an uptick in violent crime, including robberies, assaults and murders."Operation Crystal Shield is a nationwide effort involving 70 to 80 investigators in nine cities including Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix and Atlanta. Agents seized more than 4,800 pounds of meth nationwide and are still working on more arrests, according to the DEA.The Southern California seizure occurred on Oct. 2, 2020, officials said. Agents from Southwest Border Group 2 began investigating a large-scale drug trafficking organization with ties to the Sinaloa Cartel in SD Otay-Mesa area, allegedly involved in the transportation and delivery of large quantities of drugs. The investigation led to search warrants at multiple narcotic stash houses in Moreno Valley and Perris in Riverside County, officials said. The drugs were intended for distribution in Southern California, including Los Angeles, according to DEA officials, who displayed the haul at the agency's warehouse in an undisclosed location in Los Angeles County.City News Service contributed to this report 1645

A 41-year-old Sheboygan, Wisconsin mom faces multiple charges after she had her 12-year-old daughter driver her car after she was drinking.According to the criminal complaint, the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office was called to I-43 at County Road V on Sunday, March 18 around 5:30 p.m. local time — after a 911 caller reported a child driving a Chevy Equinox SUV on the freeway while sitting on her mother’s lap.The deputy caught up to the vehicle and performed a traffic stop. When the deputy approached the vehicle, he noted a strong smell of intoxicants coming from inside. He also saw the 12-year-old girl was in the back seat and the mother, Amanda Hauke, was behind the wheel. The mother initially denied that the girl was driving the car in her lap – but later admitted that it was true. The 12-year-old girl also told the deputy that she did this.During a field sobriety test, the mother admitted to drinking roughly four hours before she was pulled over. A preliminary breath test was performed and showed Hauke’s blood alcohol level was .126. She was then arrested. After she was arrested, Hauke then admitted to authorities she had consumed “a couple glasses of wine with a co-worker at a bar between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. that afternoon.”Hauke is charged with: 1306
