VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — A double shooting in North County has left one woman dead and a man hospitalized Saturday.A caller reported two people suffering from gunshot wounds, one was not breathing, at a home in the 1800 block of Hartwright Road just before 7 a.m., according to San Diego County Sheriff's Department.Deputies and Vista Fire personnel arrived to find one woman with a traumatic gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A man suffering from a suspected gunshot wound was transported to a nearby hospital with "severe" injuries, deputies say. Deputies said his prognosis is unknown.The San Diego County Medical Examiner has not released the identity of the woman pending family notification. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The San Diego Sheriff's Department is reviewing the actions of several deputies after a witness posted a controversial video on Facebook.The video shows two deputies walking a man in handcuffs just before they slam his head into a fence. Later in the video, they can be seen smacking another man in the head who is already down on the ground in handcuffs.The woman who shared the video on Facebook claims they deputies used excessive force and wants justice for the two men. A Sheriff's spokesman says the video was taken on Monday morning when deputies were responding to a domestic violence call at a Vista apartment complex.When deputies arrived the suspect was wielding a weapon and holding someone against their will, the spokesman said. During the arrest, other parties fought with the deputies. The spokesperson says the department is reviewing the body camera footage and the cell phone video.10News visited the scene of the arrests. VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.— The new virtual school year comes with challenges for many students, but one nonprofit is teaming up with a Virginia Beach business to help give kids the space they need to succeed.“When children have a place to sit down and learn, they’re going to do much better,” said George Melnyk Jr., President of Premier Millwork and Lumber Company.Melnyk’s wife, Kim, is a Virginia Beach School Board member. They decided to take on a project to make desks for CHIP, a child readiness non-profit advocacy program.“They’re going primarily to low-income homes, kids that just need a desk,” said Trish O’Brien, President of CHIP of South Hampton Roads.Machines and manpower are churning out the pieces that will become desks for hundreds of CHIP families.There’s no hardware, no tools, just four pieces that easily interlock in under a minute to create a temporary space that a child can call their own at no cost to mom and dad.“At the end of the day, they can disassemble them, slide them under the couch, stick them in the closet, put them away for the weekend, and then the next day, put them back together and be ready to work,” said Melnyk.Each desk cost .50 to build thanks to employees who are donating their time to keep labor costs at zero.Last Saturday, the crew built 110 desks. Three days.The Trump impeachment inquiry is charging into a crucial week as Americans hear from some of the most important witnesses closest to the White House in back-to-back-to-back live sessions.Among them, Ambassador Gordon Sondland, the wealthy donor whose routine boasting about his proximity to Donald Trump is now bringing the investigation to the president’s doorstep.The witnesses all are testifying under penalty of perjury, and Sondland already has had to amend his earlier account amid contradicting testimony from other current and former U.S. officials. White House insiders, including an Army officer and National Security Council aide, will launch the week’s hearings Tuesday.It’s a pivotal time as the House’s historic inquiry accelerates and deepens. Democrats say Trump demanded that Ukraine investigate his Democratic rivals in return for U.S. military aid it needed to resist Russian aggression and that may be grounds for removing the 45th president. Trump says he did no such thing and the Democrats are just out to get him any way they can.On Monday, Trump said he was considering an invitation from Speaker Nancy Pelosi to provide his own account to the House, possibly by submitting written testimony. That would be an unprecedented moment in this constitutional showdown between the two branches of U.S. government.Trump tweeted: “Even though I did nothing wrong, and don’t like giving credibility to this No Due Process Hoax, I like the idea & will, in order to get Congress focused again, strongly consider it!”A ninth witness, David Holmes, a State Department official who overheard Trump talking about the investigations on a phone call with Sondland while the ambassador was at a restaurant in Kyiv, was a late addition Monday. (KGTV) -- Deputies arrested a man they say kidnapped his girlfriend’s 8-year-old son early Wednesday morning.According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the alleged kidnapping happened on the 300 block of Hillside Terrace at 2:15 a.m.Authorities say Guillermo Cruz, 32, was intoxicated when he drove to his girlfriend’s house, jumped a balcony fence, and abducted the woman’s sleeping 8-year-old son. Deputies say Cruz is not the child’s father.After calling 911, deputies spotted the vehicle Cruz was driving and pulled him over before making the arrest. The young boy was unharmed.Deputies say they noticed Cruz had an empty vodka bottle in the car with him. He was arrested on multiple charges, including child abduction, kidnapping, child endangerment, driving under the influence and burglary. 832
