The trend is continuing and appears to be skewing toward chocolate.Americans are favoring chocolate over other kinds of candy according to data from the National Confectioners Association. Looking at sales from mid-March through early August, all candy sales are up 3.8 percent during this time period. Chocolate sales are up 5.5 percent, and premium chocolate sales are up 12.5 percent.“Consumers appreciate and value chocolate and candy during these uncertain times because of their uncanny ability to boost moods and lighten perspectives, according to new data from NCA,” the organization said in their press release.The trade organization representing the candy industry found that sales of sweet treats at grocery stores have grown by double-digits. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- Neighbors say two elderly residents of the Lincoln Palms Apartment in El Cajon were taken to the hospital Wednesday, after an explosion on Lincoln Avenue. New resident Jorge Limon told 10News Reporter Rina Nakano he and his grilfriend Samantha were unpacking when they noticed an odd smell. Later, they heard what sounded like two explosions. "We thought somebody threw a table out of the window or something. But then we saw the smoke and fire," Limon said, adding that he immediately grabbed his fire extinguisher to help.  The explosion happened on the first floor of the building around 8 p.m., just below Limon's new apartment.Fire crews arrived four minutes after the 911 call, but were surprised to see that the flames were already out when they arrived. With his extinguisher, Limon was able to put out the flames. The explosion shattered the windows of the downstairs unit, leaving the curtains and glass all around the pool. Inside Limon found the two elderly residents, who he said both suffered injuries. "They both went ot the burn center, which means they had enough burns to where it was a concern," said Heartland Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Bent Koch. San Diego Gas & Electric, El Cajon Police and several other agencies are investigating what caused the explosion. Limon told 10News his fire extinguisher was no accident. "I made a big deal to bring it," he said. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - The owners of the Cottonwood Golf Club in El Cajon have filed an application with the county to convert the property into a sand mine.Details were revealed at the Valle del Oro community planning group meeting earlier this month.The proposal calls for a three-phase mining operation over 10 years.The first phase would take place on the course west of the Steele Canyon bridge, which has already been closed to golfers.Sand is needed as a component of concrete, which has become scarcer during the construction boom of the past decade.The mine would produce a maximum of 570,000 tons a year, creating an estimated 170 heavy truck round trips a day from the site.The property is owned by Beverly Hills real estate agent Michael Schlesinger, who also owns the shuttered golf courses at Stoneridge Country Club and Escondido Country Club.10News reached out to EnviroMine, the consulting company involved in the plan. They said they would comment at a later date.Nearby residents have already created an opposition group called “Stop Cottonwood Sand Mine.”Barry Jantz is one of the organizers who argues a sand mine is not compatible with the neighborhood.“The character of the neighborhood would be impacted,” said Jantz.More specifically, he says they are worried about the noise and traffic from the trucks, as well as pollution, environmental impacts and the potential to decrease property values. They will be holding a meeting at the Rancho San Diego library on Wednesday, November 27 at 6 p.m. 1535

Due to the coronavirus, President Donald Trump and Joe Biden will not shake hands before or after Tuesday’s first presidential debate.Peter Eyre, a senior adviser for the Commission on Presidential Debates, said that the candidates and moderator Chris Wallace will not be wearing a mask during the debate.Eyre said that an audience will still be invited to the debate, but in order to gain access to the debate hall, attendees will have to pass a health screening, which will include on-site coronavirus testing.
