LOS ANGELES (AP) — A father and a daughter kidnapped a woman in a Las Vegas suburb and brought her to his Southern California house, holding her for at least a week, sexually assaulting her and then leaving her for dead in the desert, authorities said Friday.Stanley Alfred Lawton, 54, and Shaniya Nicole Poche-Lawton, 22, dumped the woman off a highway near Edwards Air Force Base north of Los Angeles, where she was found by military personnel early Wednesday, Los Angeles County sheriff's Capt. It was not clear if they had lawyers who could speak on their behalf.They each face charges of kidnapping to commit a robbery, attempted murder, kidnapping from outside the state, rape and three counts of first-degree ATM robbery, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - As part of its stepped-up response to a surge in COVID-19 cases, California is tightening its requirements for face coverings, issuing revised rules that mandate everyone wear a mask at all times outside the home when within six feet of people from other households.The revised guidance issued Monday states that residents "must wear face coverings when they are outside the home," unless they are more than six feet away from other people.People who are outdoors but not close to anyone else do not have to wear a mask, but they must have one with them to put on in case they come within six feet of other people. The rules apply to anyone aged 2 or older, but exempt people with specific medical conditions and those who are hearing impaired or communicating with a hearing-impaired person.Other exemptions to the rule include:-- people in a car alone or with members of their own household-- people working alone in an office or room-- people who are "actively eating or drinking"-- workers who must wear respiratory protectionThe state has long called on residents to wear face coverings in public, particularly while in close contact with others. LOS ANGELES (KGTV) -- A 5.3 magnitude earthquake shook the Los Angeles area Thursday afternoon. According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake struck about 35 miles southwest of Channel Island Beach. At this time there are no reports of damage or injuries. The National Weather Service added that there is no risk for tsunami. Shortly after the quake, the Los Angeles Fire Department went into earthquake mode. According to the department, during earthquake mode, firefighters from all 106 neighborhood fire stations survey all 470 square miles in the greater Los Angeles area. The department says crews are now inspecting dams, power-lines and large places such as Dodger Stadium to ensure public safety.  772
