(CNN) -- Target's revamped loyalty program is ready for its nationwide debut.Target Circle will be available to shoppers in the United States beginning October 6. Program perks include earning 1% on Target purchases, personalized deals and early access to its sales. The launch follows an 18-month test in six cities that garnered 2 million members. The expansion of the loyalty program complements Target's branded credit card, Redcard, which only a quarter of its customers use. It also replaces Cartwheel, a separate discount program, in an attempt to offer a "more seamless, intuitive shopping experience."The program is free. Target will begin automatically enrolling members that have Target.com and Redcard accounts. To use it, customers can swipe a barcode from the Target app or provide their phone number at checkout. The company has said earlier this year that Target Circle also gives the company more data about shopping habits. For example, if Target knows a shopper frequently buys diapers and baby products, it could email the customer an offer for diapers."This will help Target build a more complete picture of shoppers," said Neil Saunders, managing director at GlobalData Retail previously told CNN Business. "It gives customers a little incentive to go to Target."Target is the latest retailer to revamp its loyalty program because retailers are recognizing that they need new perks to encourage them to keep returning.Macy's, Starbucks, H&M, Kohl's, Lululemon and J Crew either have launched new loyalty programs or significantly changed their existing programs within the past year.-- CNN Business' Nathaniel Meyersohn contributed to this report. 1679

(KGTV) - Did a tv newscast claim coronavirus has been found in toilet paper? No!An image being sent around social media appears to be a screen grab from tv news claiming Covid-19 has been found in toilet paper. But the meme was created using the "Build Your Own News" website. It was made to poke fun at the stocking up on toilet paper happening across the country.Although most people took the meme for a joke, some apparently mistook the fake screen shot for real news and panicked. 491

(KGTV) — California Gov. Gavin Newsom has admitted that he should not have attended a birthday dinner with a dozen people, as critics slammed the move as hypocritical.Newsom attended an outdoor dinner at The French Laundry in Napa County on Nov. 6, according to the Associated Press. The party, which included 12 people including Newsom and his wife, was held to celebrate the 50th birthday of the governor's political adviser Jason Kinney. In a statement to The San Francisco Chronicle, which first reported on the party, Newsom said he should have set a better example as many Californians battle virus-fatigue amid an increase in coronavirus cases.California prohibits indoor or outdoor gatherings of more than three households as part of its COVID-19 guidance.Monday, Gov. Newsom pointed to gatherings as a factor in rising coronavirus cases."It’s for obvious reasons. People are letting their guard down," Newsom said this week. "They’re taking their masks off. They’re starting to get together outside of their household cohorts. They’re starting to see businesses reopen and we’re starting, again, to see more people mixing."The California Republican Party has accused Newsom of “talking out of both sides of his mouth.”The Associated Press contributed to this report. 1282

(KGTV) — A Fresno man died after not long after taking part in a taco-eating contest at a Minor League Baseball game Tuesday.Dana Hutchings, 41, died shortly after arriving at a hospital following the contest at a Fresno Grizzlies game Tuesday, according to Fresno County Sheriff's Office.ABC-affiliate KFSN reported Hutchings was taken from Chukchansi Park by an ambulance where he had just competed in a taco-eating contest before the game started. According to the Associated Press, a witness said Hutchings appeared to be eating much faster than the other two contestants, swallowing tacos without chewing them. The witness added that Hutchings collapsed about seven minutes into the contest and hit his face on the table as he fell to the ground, the AP said.A cause of death has not been released. Fresno sheriff's spokesman Tony Botti told reporters an autopsy will be performed Wednesday. Botti added that paramedics had to clear Hutchings' airway of food when he was transported, but it wasn't clear how many he had eaten.According to the AP, the Grizzlies has canceled the World Taco Eating Championship scheduled for Saturday at the annual Taco Truck Throwdown. Tuesday's contest, however, was not related to the championship event. 1250
