One of the restaurants, The Henry, is facing backlash over accusations that it was not transparent with its patrons.On Facebook, The Henry posted the following message on Monday night.“Coronado neighbors,We apologize for not being more transparent with you about our first COVID positive case last week. Even though we messed up our communication, please know that we took all the right actions to make sure our guests, our employees and our restaurant space were as safe as possible before we re-opened.We went through our entire protocol for a COVID exposure the night after we became aware one of our employees was COVID positive. This includes third-party sanitation of the restaurant, contacting all employees before they returned to work to make sure we knew who had CDC defined exposure to the COVID employee and making sure all employees had access to testing at our cost, regardless of exposure. We got lucky that we were able to get this done so quickly. That has not always been the case. In another restaurant out-of-state, we had to close a restaurant for nearly a week as we waited for the sanitation company and sufficient staff to safely reopen. No one in our industry is happy about the fact we are all getting more experienced and better at responding to COVID exposures.Some of you have asked us why we did not notify the San Diego Health Department about the COVID positive employee. We know the employee's health care provider has notified the Health Department and that we, as employers, are not required to do so. But because of your question today and after calling the San Diego Health Department who encouraged voluntary notification, the Henry is committing to do so. With all of this in mind, this evening we notified the Health Department that we received information about a second COVID positive employee.The employee in this second case was last in the restaurant on Thursday, July 2. We are closing the restaurant early this evening and will be proceeding with sanitation and employee contacts. This time, we do not expect to be able to complete all of these procedures before our regular opening tomorrow. The Henry will be closed until we can go through our protocols, all of which mirror the San Diego Health Department's and CDC guidance.These are challenging times. COVINGTON, Ky. — Holy Cross High School's graduating valedictorian and student council president learned hours before Friday night's graduation that they would not be allowed to deliver their planned — and, they thought, pre-approved — speeches at the ceremony.They found a pair of megaphones and delivered them outside. "The young people will win," valedictorian Christian Bales said, "because we're finished being complacent."The 18-year-old from Cold Spring, Kentucky had hoped to celebrate the rising tide of American youth advocacy across the political spectrum, mentioning both the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students who have campaigned for reformed gun laws and his own classmates who had attended the March for Life in January, and encourage his classmates to continue striving to make their communities better."We are dynamic, we are intelligent, we have a voice, and we're capable of using it in all communities," he said in his speech. "We must take what we've learned in this community and apply it to the world we are about to encounter."Bales' mother, Gillian Marksberry, said Bales and student council president Katherine Frantz had believed their speeches were approved before an "out-of-the-blue" Friday morning call from Principal Mike Holtz to both their families. Holtz held an "emergency meeting" that ended in a declaration the diocese did not feel the two speeches were appropriate for the ceremony, Marksberry said.Holtz related to her that the diocese characterized them as "aggressive, angry, confrontational" and too personal for the graduation stage. Crammed inside her studio apartment in New York City, Janet Mendez is doing her best to stay healthy after contracting COVID-19 back in March. Recovering from the virus has been difficult, a pain only compounded by the massive medical bills that are now piling up.It was March 25 of this year, when the 33-year-old woman was first admitted to St. Luke’s Hospital in Manhattan. Unable to breathe, she was placed onto a ventilator by doctors. Her body was only getting 70 percent of the oxygen being pumped into her lungs.“The first couple of days I didn’t know who I was. It was scary because you see all of these people, ambulances coming in and out, people laying in beds,” she recalled. “I was so early on pretty much everything was being tested on me.”Mendez spent nearly three weeks in the hospital’s ICU. She was eventually discharged and sent home, but months later, she still has a hard time walking and even breathing. The pain continues to be so bad that the office administrator for a local Dominoes is only able to work one day a week.“The COVID affected my liver and my lungs,” she said. “They don’t know if I could catch it again, and now my immune system is worse than before, so now, I have to be extra careful.”Now, Mendez is dealing with another side effect from the virus: the bills.“There was this initial shock of seeing the bill,” she said.Just days after being sent home from the hospital, Mendez started receiving bills for her 19-day stay in the hospital. Congress has mandated that COVID related procedures be covered under the CARES Act, but many patients are discovering there are loopholes in legislation and they’re the ones responsible for paying.Initially, Mendez’s medical expenses totaled more than 0,000, and she has insurance.“How are you telling me I owe this much if Congress and all these people are saying you’re covered? How am I going to pay for this? How is this going to set me back on my other bills,” she wondered.After her story started gaining attention in the media, the hospital froze Mendez’s account. Crews from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office are working to rescue a man who has been trapped in a mine shaft in western Arizona since Monday. According to MCSO, the man fell into the shaft, which is 100 feet deep. He was found Wednesday by a Good Samaritan, in the area of Eagle Eye Road and milepost 13, which is about 35 minutes south of Aguila. 370
