SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – An Oceanside man was killed Wednesday afternoon after crashing his pickup truck into the back of a big rig on state Route 163 in Linda Vista, the California Highway Patrol said.CHP officials said the crash happened at around 3:40 p.m. on the northbound side of SR-163, just south of Genesee Avenue.According to the CHP, a white Nissan pickup truck was traveling at an unknown speed when it collided with a big rig that was directly in front of it and going at a slower speed.Aerial footage from Sky10 showed the pickup truck wedged under the back of the semi.The pickup’s driver was declared dead at the scene, the CHP said.CHP officials said the big rig’s 50-year-old male driver was not hurt and remained at the scene.Investigators are trying to determine what led to the crash, including if alcohol or drugs were involved.Watch video from the scene below:Major crash on the 163Major crash on the 163A vehicle is trapped beneath a big-rig on northbound SR-163.Posted by 10News – ABC San Diego KGTV on Wednesday, August 5, 202010News will continue to keep you updated as soon as we receive more information. 1135

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A two-car collision killed at least one person in San Ysidro early Friday morning.According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 5:15 a.m. when a red car got off state Route 905 at the Caliente Avenue exit, then hit a sign before crashing into a black SUV.The SUV spun around and landed in a nearby ditch. That driver was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. The driver of the red vehicle died at the scene.The cause of the crash is unclear. Caliente Avenue was closed for a few hours while CHP investigated. 567

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego man whose bike was stolen, decided to track the thief himself. But instead of turning him in, he turned the situation into something positive. Rob Greenfield never thought he'd see his bamboo bike again. “I didn’t lock it because I was sitting 20 feet from it and then I heard a noise and I looked back and saw the guy speeding off into the night with it.” When he found the thief, he didn't turn him in. He pulled him in for a hug, forgave him and took his bike back.  “It’s one of a kind bamboo bike but really what makes it special is that I’ve biked across the United States on it doing good deeds," he said. "So I’ve traveled thousands of miles across the country.” The theft made him want to do more good deeds, right here in San Diego. “I decided that rather than turning that into a really negative situation I would turn it into a positive situation," he said. "Knowing the feeling of having a bike stolen I decided I wanted to give bikes to kids who have had their bikes stolen and can’t afford a new one.” Greenfield started a GoFundMe to raise money for bikes. Bikes that he would then donate to the Boys and Girls Club - to kids whose bikes were stolen. He says it's a lesson in kindness that he hopes the thief who took his bike, and the kids who were given bikes, will pass on.“I can crowd out the bad with lots of good. So one bike stolen so I can give away 10 bikes, he said. "In that way it just wipes that bad deed out.”Rob gave away 10 bikes Tuesday and says that there is enough left for him to do it again.  1614

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Airbnb is warning would-be party-goers this Halloween that weekend parties at San Diego listings are banned and guests could face legal action if they violate the policy.The rental booking platform banned parties at all of its listings in August and capped occupancy at 16 people as a precaution due to the pandemic. Airbnb has also banned one-night reservations over the Halloween weekend across the country."The great majority of guests are respectful of our hosts’ homes and neighbors, and we understand that this initiative will disrupt many one-night reservations that might not have led to parties. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A U.S. Marine Corps veteran is spreading the message anyone can do anything they set their mind to.Kionte Storey enlisted with the USMC in 2007. He joined after witnessing the Twin Towers attack in 2001 and wanted to discover himself and push his limits."I did join knowing I was going to go to war." Storey said his second deployment took him to Afghanistan. His team went to investigate a building, ten members went in, leaving him and one other Marine outside."I make two steps in and the IED goes off. It's kinda like a movie or what you would see in video games where everything goes gray, my ears ringing, but it felt like I was hit by a truck."He said he tried to get up but his legs weren't doing what he was asking them to. He lost his right leg in the blast. He propped himself against a wall in the hallway and said he tried to remain calm, focused on the team's safety.Back home, the Semper Fi and America's Fund took care of him, starting with getting a prosthetic leg."Learning how to walk was not the hardest part, it was the easiest part out of my entire experience." Storey said it was the mental game that was most challenging. So he took it head on."I've done more than I think I would have ever done with both my legs, than I've done with one and I've exceeded all my expectations by far." Storey has run marathons, climbed mountains like Kilamanjaro in Tanzania and Vinson Massif in Antartica."It was not only difficult because of the climb itself but but it was a mental break-through that I had that opened a lot of new possibilities of once I got to the summit [of Mt. Vinson]. I was like I can do anything, there is nothing that can stop me at this point." Storey said he hopes his story encourages others facing challenges to keep fighting.The Fund has not left his side, helping Storey buy a house, enroll at Cal State San Marcos, where he's studying Kinesiology, and connect him with Koja, his service dog."He's my best friend and I couldn't see life without him... He's made my life completely worth it."
