A 66-year-old woman was arrested and preliminarily charged Wednesday with driving into protesters in Indiana.According to the Associated Press, the woman police arrested was Christi Bennett.Hundreds of people were rallying and protesting through Bloomington Monday, following an alleged racist attack at Lake Monroe where several men attacked and apparently attempted to lynch Vauhxx Booker, a Monroe County Human Rights commissioner.Police say an electric scooter had been left in the roadway and a red Toyota passenger car drove up to it. A male passenger then got out and threw the scooter out of the lane of travel. That's when police say a woman approached the vehicle and stood in front of it with her hands on the hood.The vehicle then began to accelerate, according to police, causing the woman to go up onto the hood of the car. A man then grabbed the car and clung to the side of it as it accelerated rapidly on Walnut Street. The man and woman remained on the vehicle until it turned abruptly onto eastbound 6th Street, throwing both people off, according to police.Police say the owner of the car was staying at a motel in Scottsburg, Indiana. They traveled to Scottsburg and detained the man and woman involved. The man was interviewed and released. Bennett was transported to the Bloomington Police Department to be interviewed, but she and her legal counsel declined to provide a statement.She was arrested on the following preliminary charges:Criminal Recklessness, level 6 felony (two counts)Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, level 6 felonyLeaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Bodily Injury, class A misdemeanor.Bennett was released on a 0 cash bond within a couple of hours, the AP reported.Bennett has not been formally charged.The Associated Press contributed to this story.WRTV's Matt McKinney first reported this story. 1896

A 5th grade teacher may have been forced out because she wears a hijab.That’s the allegation against Melvindale/Northern Allen Park School District in a lawsuit filed this past week.The lawyer for Amirah Mosed said the way she was treated at work at Allendale Elementary School isn't right and in the lawsuit they allege Mosed was subjected to a hostile environment where she was told to “get a job in Dearborn” among other things, harassment that they say is against the law. “This is a woman who’s born in the U.S, who is very American and a wonderful teacher and just a great person with a sense of humor, a delightful human being,” attorney David Nacht said.Nacht said his client endured religious discrimination while she taught 5th grade.In the lawsuit against the district there are allegations Mosed was told by supervisors to resign or get fired, to “get a job in Dearborn,” told her students were not safe with her, all because she is of Yemini descent and dresses, culturally, in a hijab.”It got worse and the students loved her and she was written up and fired and it’s bologna. and its not America,” Nacht said.The allegations are discrimination and harassment on the basis of her religion. Nacht said there were no legitimate concerns about her teaching abilities.“She was just not perceived to fit the community to fit the school,” Nacht said. “What this case is really about making America safe in the workplace, for all Americans. A baby has died after being snatched from his mother's lap by a monkey in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.Neighbors rushed to help after hearing the mother's screams on Monday afternoon in a village near Agra city, according to Agra Police Assistant Superintendent Abhishek, who goes only by his first name.The baby was just 12 days old."They threw stones at the monkey to force it to drop the baby but by the time he abandoned it, he had already attacked him severely on the face," Abhishek told CNN.The child's body was recovered from the terrace of an adjacent house.Police said his injuries indicate he was bitten on the face.Monkey attacks are common in India, especially in the country's capital New Delhi.In Central Delhi, government offices are surrounded by dozens of monkeys swinging from the trees or lounging in the sun on the sidewalk.According to the Delhi government, 268 cases of monkey bites were registered in the city in 2016.In 2018, the Indian government said it had approved a pilot project for immune-contraception to control the population of wild animals including monkeys in the city. 1129

A 60,000-square-foot museum that will include a first-of-its-kind tribute to the 1980 U.S. Olympic team is scheduled to open July 30 in Colorado Springs after a three-year construction project. The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum will feature 12 galleries that include exhibits on athlete training, the Summer and Winter Games, and the USOPC Hall of Fame. The 1980 Olympics, which were held in Moscow, were boycotted by the American Olympic team in protest due to the Soviet Union invading Afghanistan, according to ABC News.“The stories of our Olympians and Paralympians are the stories of this nation’s history,” Museum Chief Executive Officer Christopher Liedel said in a news release. “Every American can see themselves in the members of Team USA and will be inspired by their dedication, perseverance, and respect for the Olympic and Paralympic values.
