Former first lady Barbara Bush didn't consider herself a Republican after Donald Trump took office, according to a forthcoming book obtained by USA Today about the matriarch of a GOP political dynasty."After Trump's rise, she saw it as a party she could not continue to support, a party she no longer recognized -- even as one of her grandsons, George P. Bush, was on the ballot as a Republican running for re-election as Texas land commissioner," author Susan Page wrote in an excerpt adapted from her new book, "The Matriarch: Barbara Bush and the Making of an American Dynasty." FT. MYERS, Fla. — A 40-year investigation into a missing Wisconsin woman ended earlier this week when police arrested a cold case suspect in Ft. Myers, Florida.John Bayerl, 78, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of first degree murder in the disappearance of his wife, Dona Mae Bayerl, who police say was 38 years old when she disappeared. In May of 1979, Bayerl reported his wife missing and told police that she stormed out of their Muskego, Wisconsin home after an argument, never to be seen again. Friends and family insisted Dona Mae Bayerl would never leave her daughters behind, who were four and seven years old at the time.Though Dona Mae Bayerl was declared dead in 1986 and the case eventually ran cold, police say they never closed the investigation, and "officers continued to be assigned to the cold case." Bayerl continued to remain a person of interest as the case was eventually reclassified from a missing person case to a homicide.A warrant for Bayerl's arrest was issued last Friday, February 15, and the Muskego Police Department traveled to Ft. Myers to take Bayerl into custody with assistance from the Lee County Sheriff's Department. Bayerl waived extradition and is currently in the Waukesha County Jail.In 2017, Muskego Police 1263
Five months ago, Brendan Bialy was sitting in his 12th-grade English class at a Colorado high school when a fellow student walked in late, holding a gun.Bialy, along with two other classmates, charged and disarmed the alleged shooter. Now, the heroic student is a United States Marine. The Castle Rock, Colorado, native graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Training in San Diego on Sept. 20.Bialy was an aspiring Marine even before the May 7 shooting that happened at STEM School Highlands Ranch, and the tragedy only made him pursue his goal harder."Honestly, my thoughts on becoming a Marine were nothing but reinforced after the shooting," Bialy said in a video shared by the Marine Corps. "What I saw that day was complete and total malevolence, bad, overcome by good. And I lost an amazing person. The world lost an amazing person — Kendrick Castillo."Students Joshua Jones and Castillo also helped disarm the suspected school shooter. Castillo, an 18-year-old senior who was just days away from graduating, was killed. After Castillo was shot, Bialy said he kept the gun away from the suspect and helped a teacher perform chest compressions on Castillo. But Castillo didn't respond.Jones was shot twice but lived. Bialy said that he "saw that benevolence won, legitimately and completely won in that situation." He added that joining the Marines helped him build on a moral foundation he knew he had because of how he reacted in the shooting. The moral foundation Bialy spoke of was the same character he showed during his training, his instructor said."I noticed through some events of training that his past kind of reflected on some things we had to do here: quick reaction, willingness to fight, his character really showed," said Staff Sgt. Chestnut, Bialy's training instructor.According to the Marine Corps, Bialy graduated as a platoon honor man and earned a meritorious promotion to private first class. 1928
Gregory and Nina Barta were on vacation when they saw surveillance video of three people allegedly stealing from their home in Romulus, Michigan. Two of the suspects are complete strangers, but the third is their own 17-year-old son.The Bartas said that their son has had issues with truancy and incorrigibility but nothing like this.
