(KGTV) – Military officials said search teams identified the location off San Clemente Island where an amphibious assault vehicle sank last week, resulting in the deaths of eight service members from a Camp Pendleton-based unit.I Marine Expeditionary Force said Tuesday the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group “positively identified on Aug. 3 the location of the amphibious assault vehicle (AAV) that sunk off the coast of San Clemente Island on July 30.”Officials also said the Navy's Undersea Rescue Command “confirmed human remains were identified with remotely-operated video systems aboard HOS Dominator, an undersea search & rescue ship. The Navy has expedited the movement of assets to recover the remains of the Marines and Sailor, and raise the AAV.”Military officials said the AAV was participating in a training exercise when it started taking on water for unknown reasons at around 5:45 p.m. on July 30. Officials confirmed the AAV sunk 385 feet upon taking on water during a shore-to-ship manuever.Seven members of the Camp Pendleton-based crew survived the accident. Medics took two of them to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where both were admitted in critical status. One was upgraded to stable condition as of Sunday night, Marine officials said.The other five rescued Marines received clean bills of health and returned to their units.Lance Cpl. Guillermo S. Perez of New Braunfels, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Perez was a rifleman with Bravo Company, Battalion Landing Team 1/4, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.The 15th MEU, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force and Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group worked for nearly two days to locate more survivors, but they concluded the search-and-rescue operation Saturday after 40 hours of searching across 1,324 square miles.The other eight lost service members were identified as:-- Pfc. (KGTV) -- The family of Trevor Heitmann, the popular internet personality who drove a sports car into another vehicle killing a mother and her young daughter, say they are devastated and are working to understand what led to Thursday’s tragedy. “Our family is devastated over the tragic loss of our beloved Trevor Heitmann,” the family said in a statement sent to this station via email Saturday by their attorney. “We express our deepest condolences to the Pizarro family and anyone impacted by this incident.” “We are piecing together the facts and circumstances that lead to this incomprehensible tragedy.”The family also thanked first responders for their “valiant efforts and dedication.”Heitmann, 18, was behind the wheel of the 2014 sports car that collided with an SUV, killing himself, and a 43-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.Heitmann was traveling at a high rate of speed heading southbound in a northbound HOV lane at about 4:30 p.m. near La Jolla Village Drive before the collision, CHP said. Troopers believe he entered via an HOV lane access at Carol Canyon Road. The two vehicles collided and exploded into flames, witnesses told 10News, causing a chain reaction of crashes with at least five other vehicles.  1315

(KGTV) - Uber is expanding its role as a common ride-sharing platform into the healthcare sector in its release of "Uber Health," the company announced Thursday.Uber Health partners with healthcare organizations and is designed to provide rides for patients, caregivers, and staff. The primary aim is to serve patients, though, as access is available without a smartphone."Riders don’t need the Uber app, or even a smartphone, to get a ride with Uber Health because it’s all done through text message. We’re even going to be introducing the option for riders to receive a call with trip details to their mobile phone or landline instead," a release from the company said.Healthcare providers can schedule rides on clients' behalf, the passenger is contacted by text message with their trip details when the ride is booked and also when their driver arrives, and then the passenger is picked up and dropped off.If the passenger does not have a mobile phone, Uber said the healthcare company or caregiver can coordinate on their behalf.Uber said the service will hopefully cut down on the number of patients who miss doctor appointment due to transportation issues."Every year an estimated 3.6 million Americans miss their appointments due to a lack of reliable transportation. At Uber, we recognize that the path to health may not be easy, but we know the road to care can be," the company says.Organizations that partner with Uber Health will be given access to track billing, appointments, and schedule multiple follow-up appointments simultaneously.The company added their product will meet HIPAA standards.Uber plans to use drivers already in their established network to facilitate the service. 1736

A 17-year-old victim in a series of deadly package bombs delivered to homes in Austin, Texas, was identified Tuesday as Draylen Mason, as a law enforcement source revealed the same person may have constructed the three devices.Mason, described by Austin Police Chief Brian Manley as an "outstanding young man who was going places with his life," was killed when a package on the porch of a Texas home exploded Monday morning. His mother is in stable condition.The name of a 75-year-old woman wounded in a second incident Monday has not been released. The bombings have shaken residents and cast suspicion on one of life's common occurrences: getting a package delivered to your doorstep.One of the explosive packages was brought indoors and yielded parts that could be reconstructed, according to the law enforcement source. The devices were essentially pipe bombs rigged to explode upon opening, the source said.The three package bombs have exploded at homes in the Texas capital over 10 days, killing two people and injuring two others. Investigators say they believe the incidents are related, and residents have responded anxiously in the past day.Austin police have received 265 calls about suspicious packages, Manley said Tuesday, though police haven't indicated any subsequent check revealing anything alarming."What caused this in these instances was a suspicious package that no one was suspecting or expecting," Austin Mayor Steve Adler said Tuesday. (SAN DIEGO) KGTV -- New records released show police responded to the home of the man that injured two police officers dozens of times in the past. On June 23rd, police responded to a disturbance call at the Rolando Court condo. When they smelled smoke, they called firefighters to the scene. Officers knocked on the front door for more than 20 minutes but received no response, officials said. Firefighters forced entry into the home. That’s when firefighters and officers were met with gunfire. Two officers were shot.The man inside the condo, Joe Darwish, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.Following the June 23rd shooting, Team 10 requested details regarding the number of times police responded to Darwish's address, but they were not released until after the investigation was over. The officers were cleared of any wrongdoing.Documents show that since 2013, there were 31 calls for service to Darwish's address before the night of the shooting. More than half were 5150 calls, where officers checked on the individual’s mental wellbeing. Nine calls were for disturbances, some with violence. In February 2016, there was one call listed as “CCCC,” which police say describes a chronic caller to the department. The records also revealed police were at the home eight days before the shooting for another disturbance call with potential violence. Darwish did have a criminal history and was not supposed to own any weapons. 1443
