As the State of Massachusetts is considering a ban of youth tackle football, parents and former NFL players rallied on Tuesday to fight the proposed ban. Massachusetts Youth Football Alliance led the rally at the Massachusetts capitol, urging lawmakers to vote against the ban. Under the law, flag and touch football would still be permitted at all ages. The bill would prohibit schools and organizations from allowing children in the seventh grade or younger from participating in tackle football. The law would be punishable by a ,000 fine. Former Patriots linebacker Andre Tippett expressed his opposition to the proposed legislation. "As a lifelong participant and fan of the game of football, I've seen firsthand how the values of character, leadership, discipline, resilience and teamwork can play an immeasurable role in the development of young boys and girls that participate in youth tackle football," Tippett said in a statement to NFL.com.But bill sponsor Rep. Paul A. Schmid III told the Herald News that the bill is about protecting children. “It’s all about kids’ health and we have a number of studies that say that repeated contacts to the head are very bad for you and the younger that starts, the worse it is,” Schmid told the Herald 1269
Bindi Irwin, the 21-year-old daughter of late conservationist and TV personality Steve Irwin, married her fiance Wednesday evening in a ceremony at the Australia Zoo in Queensland.Irwin confirmed her marriage to 23-year-old Chandler Powell in an Instagram post.In her post, Irwin said that the couple had planned a larger wedding for more than a year but decided to scale back to a small ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic."This was a very difficult decision but important to keep everyone safe. BALTIMORE — A lawmaker from Maryland has apologized for using a racial slur. Delegate Mary Ann Lisanti apologized to the leaders of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland and the House Democratic Caucus for her use of the n-word.Democrat Lisanti released a statement Tuesday afternoon:"I deeply apologize to the citizens of my district, people of Maryland, all of my colleagues in the Maryland General Assembly and everyone reading this for my word choice several weeks ago. I am sickened that a word that is not in my vocabulary came out of my mouth. It does not represent my belief system, my life’s work or what is my heart.Last evening I met with the Legislative Black Caucus to express my deepest regret for the pain I have caused my colleagues in the General Assembly and repent. This morning, I expressed the same to the entire Democratic Caucus. Earlier today, I met with House Speaker Busch and agreed to step down from my leadership position. I also agreed to participate in sensitivity training. I understand that the use of inappropriate and insensitive language is not acceptable under any circumstance. I am sorry for the hurt I have caused and will do everything I can to help heal that pain and regain the trust of my colleagues and constituents. I pray for forgiveness. "According to 1315
