WEST ORANGE, New Jersey (WPIX) — A snowstorm that caused chaos for commuters Thursday also left hundreds of students stranded in New Jersey schools overnight.School buses were unable to get to schools in West Orange, forcing the district to keep the children overnight into Friday.Eight West Orange Public School District schools, including a preschool, had students spend the night.More than 200 students in all slept at West Orange schools.Liberty Middle School housed the most students, with about 25 teachers looking after about 100 students overnight.The school’s principal kept the public updated with pictures and the latest information on their students, who were kept entertained and fed.As of 5:30 a.m. Friday, staff began serving students French toast for breakfast.District officials hoped roads would be clear Friday morning so buses could return the students home, but snow began to fall again.Police escorted students home who were not able to be picked up by their family, school officials said.A handful of students remained at school as of 9 a.m.West Orange public schools will be closed Friday. 1121

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Even if President Donald Trump doesn’t concede, the nation’s major social media companies say control of the official White House accounts will be transferred to President-elect Joe Biden when he’s sworn in on Jan. 20.Throughout his presidency, Trump has relied heavily on websites like Twitter to disseminate information and announce major updates, more than any previous administration.In a statement obtained by Reuters and CBS News, a Twitter spokesperson said the company is actively preparing to support the transition of the “institutional” accounts on Inauguration Day. Those accounts include @POTUS, @FLOTUS, @VP, and @WhiteHouse.Existing tweets on these accounts will be archived and the accounts will be reset for the incoming administration, CBS News reports.The Trump administration regularly posts using these accounts, but the president himself largely uses @realDonaldTrump, which he created before being elected and will likely use after he’s left office.Reuters also obtained a statement from Facebook, in which the social media giant said it expected to work with Trump administration and the incoming Biden administration to make sure the transition of accounts is seamless on Jan. 20, as it did in 2017.Trump has still not conceded to Biden and he continues to combat the results of the election in court and online. He also taught for four years as an adjunct professor at the University of Connecticut in the Department of Educational Leadership.Cardona is a low-profile candidate who The Washington Post says has pushed to reopen schools and hasn’t been aligned with any particular side in recent education policy battles. When schools moved to remote learning this year, The Associated Press reports Cardona hurried to deliver more than 100,000 laptops to students across The Constitution State.In his announcement, Biden said Cardona will lead the administration’s efforts to invest in all students, support educators, and make reopening schools safely a national priority. They hope to safely reopen the majority of classrooms within the first 100 days of Biden’s term.Biden says Cardona will strive to eliminate long-standing inequities and close racial and socioeconomic opportunity gaps — as well as expand access to community colleges, training and public four-year colleges and universities to improve student success and grow a stronger middle class.Cardona’s parents are from Puerto Rico.
