BRUSSELS, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- China expected an early resumption of the six-party talks to ease tensions and resolve the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said here on Tuesday. All parties should make joint efforts to ease tensions between the south and the north on the peninsula and strive to resume the six-party talks at an early date, said Wen while meeting South Korean President Lee Myung-bak on the sidelines of the eighth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit in Brussels."This is in the fundamental interests of all parties involved and is conducive to peace and stability in the region," he said. The six-party talks, a multilateral mechanism designed to peacefully denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, were launched in 2003. The talks involve China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Japan, South Korea, Russia and the United States.Speaking of the upcoming Group of 20 (G20) Seoul Summit, slated for Nov. 11-12, Wen said it was of great significance for boosting the world economic recovery, adding that China would support South Korea in seeking positive outcomes at the meeting.Wen said China regards South Korea as a friendly neighbor and an important partner. It also cherished the hard-won mutual understanding and trust between the two countries, believing the bilateral ties could withstand tests and continue to develop.China would also work with South Korea to boost cooperation in East Asia, Wen added.Lee appreciated China's support for Seoul G20 summit, saying his country would keep working with China to improve bilateral ties and play an active role in safeguarding peace and stability as well as deepening cooperation within the region.

BEIJING, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and Vice President Xi Jinping on Monday met with veterans and heroes of the Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV) to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the volunteer army entering the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to help in the war to resist U.S. aggression.Hu is commander-in-chief of China's armed forces, while Xi has been newly appointed vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the Communist Party of China. In his address on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the CMC, Xi said that the Chinese movement 60 years ago was "a great and just war for safeguarding peace and resisting aggression."Chinese President Hu Jintao (3rd R, front), also chairman of the Central Military Commission, and Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping (2nd R, front) meets with representatives of Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV) veterans and old comrades who have devoted to the entry of the Chinese People's Volunteers into the Korean front prior to a symposium that commemorate the 60th anniversary of the entry of the CPV into the Korean front in Beijing, capital of China, Oct. 25, 2010."It was also a great victory gained by the united combat forces of China's and the DPRK's civilians and soldiers, and a great victory in the pursuit of world peace and human progress," Xi said.Xi said the Chinese people would never forget the great contribution and sacrifice made by the nation's founders and, in particular, the people who made history during a war that saw the weak defeating the strong. The Chinese people will never forget the friendship -- established in battle -- with the DPRK's people and army, he said. BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Access to debt finance, leading technology and lower cost gave Chinese mining and metals investors an advantage in the global mergers and acquisitions (M&A) market, accounting giant Ernst & Young said Thursday."Competition for mining and metals assets around the world has steadily increased during 2010, with the sector's total deal value as of Sept. 30 growing 87 percent over the same period last year," said Ernst & Young global mining and metals leader Mike Elliott. The firm's statistics show the total value of the world's deals in mining and metals for the year to Sept. 30 reached 78.9 billion U.S. dollars, with the number of deals growing 10 percent year-on-year to 827.For China, the value of mining and metals deals at Sept. 30 has surged 53 percent to 8.9 billion U.S. dollars. Of the 102 transactions, 49 were outbound deals, 40 domestic and 13 inbound."China's outbound M&A investment continues to be driven by the country's need to secure reliable sources of raw materials to support its rapid economic growth and urbanization plans," Ernst & Young China mining and metals leader Peter Markey said."Debt finance in particular has a strong appeal to vendors, given the lack of bank finance available to miners. Bidders able to provide not just equity but also direct or indirect access to debt are very appealing," he said.Similarly, bringing innovative Chinese technology to the deal table, together with access to equipment and supplies which lower operating costs, had proved a winning formula for some successful Chinese acquirers this year, Markey said.

XIAMEN, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- China's outbound direct investment (ODI) rose 1.1 percent year on year to 56.53 billion U.S. dollars in 2009, according to a government report issued Sunday.Non-financial ODI, which accounts for 84.5 percent of the total, stood at 47.8 billion U.S. dollars last year, up 14.2 percent from one year earlier, while the country's overseas investment in financial sectors declined 37.9 percent to 8.7 billion U.S. dollars, according to a report jointly released by the Ministry of Commerce, the National Bureau of Statistics and the State Administration of Foreign Exchange.By the end of 2009, Chinese enterprises established 13,000 overseas companies in 177 countries, with combined assets topping 1 trillion U.S. dollars, according to the report.

FUZHOU, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Meranti, the 10th typhoon to hit China this year, made landfall at Shishi City in the southeastern Chinese province of Fujian at 3:30 a.m. Friday, according to provincial flood control authorities.A total of 145,300 people in Fujian have been evacuated to avoid rain- and wind-triggered accidents.About 33,200 fishing boats returned to port before 8:00 p.m. Thursday to take refuge from the typhoon.Meranti will bring up to 100 mm of rainfall to Fujian's Quanzhou, Putian, Fuzhou and Ningde cities Friday, according to meteorological authorities' forecast.
