A fast-growing, wind-driven wildfire swept into the northern Los Angeles area overnight, forcing hurried evacuation orders for tens of thousands of people, closing portions of at least three major freeways and sending firefighters scrambling to save homes. The Saddleridge Fire, which started Thursday and exploded to 4,600 acres by early Friday, jumped across the 210 and 5 freeways overnight as it spread into northern Los Angeles neighborhoods. An undetermined number of homes have been destroyed, and mandatory evacuations were called for more than 12,000 homes -- often while occupants were sleeping -- in and near Los Angeles' Porter Ranch neighborhood, the Los Angeles Fire Department said."We need people to leave now while they can," Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore said early Friday. 809

The Donald J. Trump Foundation has agreed to dissolve under judicial supervision amid an ongoing lawsuit concerning its finances, according to a document filed Tuesday in Manhattan Supreme Court by the New York state Attorney General's office. The dissolution of President Donald Trump's charity resolves one element of the attorney general's civil lawsuit against the foundation, which includes claims that the President and his children violated campaign finance laws and abused its tax-exempt status. The lawsuit will continue in court because it also seeks two other outcomes: .8 million in restitution, plus penalties, and a ban on Trump and his three eldest children serving on the board of any other New York nonprofit. The agreement to dissolve, signed by both the foundation and Attorney General Barbara Underwood's office, also allows the attorney general's office to review the recipients of the charity's assets. You never know what the tide might bring in. Guests at a resort on Fort Lauderdale beach witnessed an unusual object wash up on shore: a 20-foot cross. “I was getting calls from the front desk, from the tiki bar, from the guests,” describes Frank Talerico, owner of Ocean Manor Resort. The large cross washed up on the beach outside the resort a few weeks ago. “When I saw it, I got goosebumps,” Talerico says. “I couldn't believe it.” It took 10 men in all to pull the cross out of the water.Since then, many have come by to see it in person. It’s even been blessed by a priest. “When we were here the other night, there were people kneeled all around it praying,” describes one woman. The resort has turned it into Fort Lauderdale's latest tourist attraction, bringing in people from all over the country. There are still questions regarding the origin of the cross. “You can't help but wonder what kind of journey it’s been on,” says one tourist. 964

The challenge #TrashTag is a viral trend taking over social media. People all over are cleaning up the environment and sharing it online. Although a new trend online, it’s something nature lover Caitlin Deporter has already been doing for nearly a decade. The beauty of the outdoors is something Deporter has always cherished. "It's just grown from a young age, an appreciation for everything natural," Deporter says. She spends a lot of her time hiking near the Potomac River in Maryland. "My dad and I usually do our big hiking trips together," she says. Along those hikes, Deporter says she sees a lot of garbage. "There are a lot of beer cans and bottles, I will tell you that," she says. Americans produce more than 250 million tons of waste annually, according to the EPA. Keep America Beautiful reports .5 billion is spent yearly cleaning it all up. However, Deporter is doing one simple thing to curb those statistics. “I'll bring a normal size trash bag and a backpack and get prepared for a day of work,” she says. For the last eight years, on her bi-weekly hikes, she brings a trash bag with her every time, picking up all the litter she sees along the way. "I'm concentrating on getting trash where it's supposed to be," she says. She does something small to help combat a big problem. "I'm just one person; I can only do so much," she says. She’s hoping the #TrashTag movement keeps up, for the sake of the environment."I hope this whole trend really sticks, and it's not just you know people do it for a week to get all their photos in and look all cool, you know,” Deporter says. “I really hope people continue to do it." 1658
