¡¡¡¡It¡¯s a slogan meant to convey how delicious the food is, but KFC says they are pausing the use of ¡°finger-licking good¡± in their marketing because it does not seem appropriate for 2020.¡°Think we can all agree, this year has been like no other and, right now, our slogan doesn¡¯t feel quite right,¡± reads a light-hearted statement from the company.Maybe they are referring to the CDC urging Americans to wear masks and not touch their faces to stop the spread of the coronavirus.KFC¡¯s marketing team also had some fun blurring the slogan from old billboards and commercials in a YouTube video posted Monday. The slogan has been used in connection with KFC¡¯s chicken for 64 years.¡°We find ourselves in a unique situation¡ªhaving an iconic slogan that doesn¡¯t quite fit in the current environment. While we are pausing the use of It¡¯s Finger Lickin¡¯ Good, rest assured the food craved by so many people around the world isn¡¯t changing one bit.¡± said Catherine Tan-Gillespie, global chief marketing officer at KFC.The company admits they are having a little fun with the slogan and the realities of 2020, and the slogan will be back in the future. 1148
¡¡¡¡It has been 11 years since the federal minimum wage has increased, and Congress is weighing if now is the time to give minimum wage employees a raise. One economist cautions that now might not be the best time.¡°The big problem then is if you fundamentally raise the cost of their labor by raising the federal minimum wage in states where that will have an impact, then you¡¯re further increasing the businesses¡¯ cost,¡± said Ryan Bourne, economist from the Kato Institute. ¡°Which is likely to make more businesses fail and actually result in fewer jobs being available for low-wage workers.¡±According to the Cato Institute, 29 states and the District of Columbia have minimum wages that are above the federal minimum of .25.¡°This seems to be a particularly bad time to raise the cost of hiring people by having a higher hourly wage rate,¡± Bourne said. ¡°It might deter some of the adjustment we need to live with this virus.¡±But fellow economist Ben Zipperer of the Economic Policy Institute disagrees with Bourne¡¯s assessment.¡°That kind of concern has always been raised when we¡¯re talking about the minimum wage, and it doesn¡¯t seem to actually play out in reality,¡± Zipperer said.Zipperer argues that raising the minimum wage could boost economic activity. He added that a minimum wage hike, while not a panacea, would put the economy in the right direction.¡°Giving people more money to have more money to spend, that¡¯s probably one of the most effective policies to have during a kind of depression,¡± he said. 1519
¡¡¡¡In post-Brexit Britain, trips to the European Union will get a little more expensive for millions of Brits in search of a continental break. The European Commission confirmed on Friday that UK travelers will be required fill out an online form and cough up €7 (.90) for visa-free travel, which will be valid for three years.Natasha Bertaud, a spokeswoman for the commission's President Jean-Claude Juncker, likened the "simple form" to the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) scheme used by the United States -- which requires travelers to pay to apply for permission to enter the country. She also pointed out that the EU's version, called ETIAS, will be "way cheaper."But this all comes with a major caveat. If the UK crashes out of the EU with no agreement in place, Brits will be required to get a visa to travel to the EU, a commission spokeswoman told Reuters on Friday.ETIAS, which is expected to come into force in 2021, will apply to countries outside the EU whose citizens can currently travel in Europe visa free. There are currently 61 such countries, including the United States, Israel and Singapore. It will cover the so-called Schengen group of 26 European countries that share largely open land borders. The electronic visa waiver system was conceived to "identify any security or irregular migratory risks posed by visa-exempt visitors traveling to the Schengen area while at the same time facilitate crossing frontiers for the vast majority of travelers who do not pose such risks,"?according to the commission. 1554
