(KGTV) — Visitors flocked to Julian ahead of an impending storm that could bring snow to the scenic mountain town for Thanksgiving.Wednesday, temperatures remained low but dipped as the sun went down. Rain and mist made it difficult for shoppers — clutching their coats and umbrellas — who were still making their way around Julian's main strip. Many are waiting for the snow that's expected to hit the area Thursday and Friday. Last 'snowmaggeddon' all the staff was stuck here for a week," Kat Bowles, assistant manager at Julian Lodge, said.Gloves, jackets, long pants, and boots will make a trip to the snow much more comfortable.Also, chains will likely be required on many roads leading to the mountains. Anyone planning to head up to the mountains should pack chains for their vehicle.Sledding and fun in the snow should only be done on public lands, not on private land or on the side of roadways where traffic is a hazard.And before leaving, locals ask visitors follow the adage "take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints" and clean up after themselves. 1796

Just weeks away from the New Year, economists and other experts are reflecting on the trajectory of our economic recovery. At the start of the pandemic, nine months ago, most experts were optimistic and agreed that the U.S. had a strong shot at seeing a fast V-shaped recovery.“We can turn this around this year. I still think there’s real hope for that,” Todd McCracken, with the Small Business Association, said in March.Even with some required government shutdowns, most experts believed the U.S. would most likely see a U-shaped recovery. That means things would pick up a little slower, but it would still be considered a relatively fast rebound.“There was also the L, which meant we were going to go down to the bottom and no one knew where we were going to go, and then there was the W, which meant we were going to go down and then we were going to come up, and actually, that is pretty much what is happening,” said Jonathan Drapkin, president and CEO of the Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress.Drapkin pointed out the other and more dreaded “W” or “L” scenarios experts feared back in March appear to be more in line with what the U.S. is actually experiencing now.“It’s definitely more of an L, said Elise Gould, an economist with the Economic Policy Institute.“Personally, I think any hope for a quick recovery has gone by the wayside. That's the question the San Diego County Fire Department is asking after the official legal takeover of the formerly volunteer-run Julian-Cuyamaca Fire District. The county and the small town department are stuck in a legal battle since the volunteer department's dissolution in April 2019. Previously, members of LAFCO (Local Agency Formation Commission), a group that overseas special county districts, voted to dissolve the volunteer-run fire department. In March 2019, citizens voted the fire agency in charge should be San Diego County Fire Department. In April 2019, the official handover was supposed to happen. People that are their neighbors, their friends," Julian resident Vicki Newman said. Newman said she has been an advocate for the small town department since volunteers saved her brother-in-law's life.
