OMAHA, Nebraska — Omaha resident and Sutton native Elliott Bottorf got a surprise while on a Saturday morning drive in North Central Nebraska. Bottorf and his wife passed a longhorn steer riding in the passenger's side of a sedan on Highway 20 near O'Neill.  A cattle guard replaced the passenger's door and part of the roof was taken off the vehicle for the steer's head to stick out.As of Wednesday, the video, which he posted to Facebook on March 17, had been viewed more than 3.8 million times and shared more than 80,000 times.Some have commented wondering if the steer was real or fake."At first, I wasn't sure if it was alive or not but after reviewing the video you could clearly see that it had some snot coming out of its nose," Bottorf explained. "You could see its eyes blinking."The driver and the steer were on their way to O'Neill to be in the St. Patrick's Day Parade. 922

On Friday morning, a truck pulled up outside Heim Elementary School in Williamsville to collect boxes full of shoes for the Nicaragua Mission Project.The project has been collecting supplies for people in Nicaragua for more than a decade. Based in East Amherst, it works with volunteers from local schools and churches to fill boxes with donations and send them from New York to Nicaragua.Heim Elementary School has been working with the project for years, and one fourth grader has been a part of the project for most of his life. Luke Avery started collecting shoes in kindergarten. He even goes to other schools and daycares to pick up donations. Luke has collected more than 3,000 pairs of shoes over the years. He was there again Friday morning to donate more."I feel like other kids can go for school because of kids at my school," Luke said."This is not from me, this is from other children," the project's organizer, Ann Marie Zon said. "And they always feel another kid feeling for them is more special than that shoes. Ohio State University placed its head football coach, Urban Meyer, on paid administrative leave on Wednesday as it investigates whether he was aware of domestic violence allegations against fired assistant coach Zach Smith."The university is conducting an investigation into these allegations," Ohio State said. Ryan Day, who has been the team's offensive coordinator, will be acting head football coach while Meyer is on leave."We are focused on supporting our players and on getting to the truth as expeditiously as possible," the university said.Meyer said in a statement that he and Gene Smith, Ohio State's athletic director, "agree that being on leave during this inquiry will facilitate its completion. This allows the team to conduct training camp with minimal distraction. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV)- The freeway is back open in Oceanside after a big rig crash caused a major mess. It happened just after 10:30 a.m. on the southbound I-5 just north of Harbor Drive near Camp Pendleton. According to the CHP, the driver of a flatbed pulled off to the shoulder to check the equipment he was carrying. The driver of a big-rig hauling an excavator passed by and clipped the rear tire of the truck that was parked. The driver of the semi lost control, went down the embankment, hit a tree and flipped over. Remarkably, the driver is expected to be OK. "Very fortunate, judging the distance and the weight that we're looking at in these vehicles and the condition that the big rig is in that he sustained only minor injuries, " said CHP Officer Mark Latulippe. The big rig also caught on fire, but drivers stopped to help. "After the big rig had come to a stop on its side, a small fire had broken out. Some witnesses and passer-bys that had seen the crash actually stopped and put out the fire with some fire extinguishers," said Officer Latulippe. Clearing the wreckage was a long and complicated process."It's kind of a mess. There's a lot of pieces. It's entangled within a tree. The excavator is off the trailer, mostly off the trailer, the big rig truck tractor's portion of that is coming apart in pieces as we are trying to get it up," described Officer Latulippe.
