SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An apartment building was badly damaged following a two-alarm fire in Serra Mesa Thursday afternoon. According to firefighters, the blaze started at an apartment complex on the 3300 block of Ruffin Road around 1:20 p.m. Once they arrived on scene, firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in 20 minutes. A total of two units, one on the first floor and another on the second, burned in the fire. Two additional units were later determined to have been involved in the blaze. Two adults and two children were displaced from one of the units while two adults and two pets were displaced from the other. SDFD crews have put out a fire at an apartment complex at 3399 Ruffin Rd. Firefighters searched the two apartments involved and no one was inside. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- All lanes of eastbound Interstate 8 have reopened after a three-vehicle crash caused four lanes of the interstate to be closed. The crash happened near the College Road off-ramp around 3:45 a.m. The California Highway Patrol gave few details on what exactly caused the crash.A driver of the SUV involved in the crash said another car drove the wrong way down the ramp and smashed into his vehicle. A third vehicle then crashed into the two others.Two people inside one of the vehicles were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.CHP says one of those inside the sedan at the time of the crash may have been thrown from the car. The man is also being investigated for possibly driving under the influence, according to CHP.The driver of the SUV was uninjured while the driver of the third vehicle is being investigated for driving under the influence. 898

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- According to a recently-released autopsy, a combination of cocaine, alcohol and blunt chest impact caused a man to die during a punching game in March downtown.The medical examiner ruled the death of 27-year-old Corey Poole an accident Monday. According to authorities, Poole went out drinking at Jolt’n Joe’s downtown just before 1 a.m. with friends.Police said Poole and one of his friends then decided to have a punching contest. Poole and his friend then started “consensually sparring” and punching one another in the chest.RELATED: Man killed in Gaslamp Quarter punching game identifiedIt was then, according to police, that Poole fell to the ground and became unresponsive. Poole was taken to the hospital where he later died.Poole’s friend was also taken to the hospital for chest pain following the incident. 850

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Americans are being warned to not eat any romaine lettuce after concerns over a new E-Coli outbreak. At least 32 people in 11 states have gotten sick. One of San Diego’s largest produce suppliers is jumping into action. Speciality Produce supplies hundreds of restaurants and caterers around the county with fresh produce. Owner Bob Harrington says he had to notify each customer about the CDC warning. Harrington says employees went through a list, of about 9 pages, and called customers warning them to throw out all of their romaine. “I think there’s a really good system in place so whenever something like this does happen we can respond really quickly,” says Harrington. Employees spent almost 2 hours calling all of the customers. “I think most companies, like us, practice a couple times a year just to do a dry run to make sure we’re ready to do a recall at a moments notice and finish it within minutes.” Specialty produce has about five to seven different types of romaine in its warehouse. All of them were pulled from the main floor. Harrington says he will replace the romaine from all of his customers with a new green, free of charge. The CDC is not only urging everyone to throw away their romaine but to clean the areas where the green was stored.  1329

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A water contact closure was extended Sunday to include the Silver Strand due to flows from the Tijuana River. According to the county, a water contact closure was issued Saturday for Imperial Beach. The closure was extended north to include the Silver Strand. “Sewage-contaminated runoff in the Tijuana River has been entering the Tijuana Estuary as a result of recent rainfall,” the Department of Environmental Health said.
